BOROUGH OF SLATINGTON

The Finance/ Public Safety, Human/Community Services, Workshop Meeting was held on February 28, 2011 in Council Room, 125 South Walnut Street, Slatington, PA. The meeting was called to order by President Freed at 6:35 PM with the following in attendance:

FINANCE

VISITORS

Melvin Gildner – 528 Pine Street once again spoke about the water/sewer rates.

George Moyer – 231 Main Street stated that he wanted to set the record straight, that Melvin Gildner did not get kicked off the Crime Watch. He noted that both he and Mr. Gildner were told by the police officer who is on the Crime Watch Board that they had to dress a certain way and comb their hair a certain way.

2.  2006 Bond Refinancing Update – Councilor Stevens and the office staff

worked on the paperwork that RBC Capital Markets requested and it has been submitted to them.

Magistrate Lease Update – Councilor Hallman noted that the bid paperwork

was submitted to the Council members for review, comments and has now

been mailed to Lehigh County.

SSM Invoice No. 0235492 – Another letter has been sent to SS&M concerning the $300.00 over charge for their preparation for the Transportation Enhancement Grant Application. At a previous Council Meeting a motion was passed giving SS&M authorization to proceed with

the application, at a cost not to exceed $3,000.00.

3.  Councilor Burek submitted a proposal to help generate an additional $48,000.00 in revenue by revising the Yard Sale Ordinance.

She also brought up the topic concerning the outstanding liens that have

been filed on behalf of the Borough.

There were no further topics or questions from the committee members, other Council members or the public and so the Finance Meeting was adjourned.

PUBLIC SAFETY

Paul Hoffman – Chairman; Members: Russell Hallman, Daniel Stevens – In the absence of Councilor Hoffman, Vice-President Reed conducted the meeting.

VISITORS - None

2.  The Walnut Street Playground Association Letter Request was discussed and

it was decided to put it on the March 14, Council Meeting Agenda for action.

Chief Rachman informed the committee that the taser training has been

completed.

There were no further issues or questions from the committee members, other Council members or the public and so the Public Safety Meeting was adjourned.

HUMAN/COMMUNITY SERVICES

Scott Everett (D&L) and Pete Papay/Jason Breidinger (Venture Group)

At the February 14, 2011 Council Meeting, Mr. Papay and Mr. Breidinger on behalf of the Venture Group gave an update on the Trailhead project. It was suggested that they attend the next Human/Community Services Workshop Meeting to discuss various issues

concerning parking, insurance, ownership and the use of the trailhead along with other information. There was an extensive discussion with Mr. Everett, Mr. Papay and Mr. Breidinger explaining the different issues as listed above. Mr. Ted Kistler asked Mr. Everett if they could count on him to do his best on acquiring additional parking at the trailhead. They proceeded to study the map of Slatington on the Council Chamber wall and Mr. Trego reminded them that this is a public meeting and Councilor Burek mentioned the Sunshine Act.

2.  Slate Trailhead Landscaping – Discussed under Visitors

Northern Lehigh Ed Foundation Event – Running of the Dawgs Race - it was decided to place this request on the March 14, 2011 Council Meeting

Agenda for action and approval.

Northern Lehigh Halloween Parade Request – it was decided to place this request on the March 14, 2011 Council Meeting Agenda for action and approval.
