CLASS PROCEDURES AND GRADING POLICY

1. Course Identification:Naval Science II, full year,5 credits,Grades10-12. Prerequisite:

  • Enrolled in and attending a regular course of instruction in Cherokee HS.
  • Be physically qualified to participate fully in the NJROTC program.

(must have a current physical on file)Drill team & Color Guard & have paid activity fee

  • Approved by the NJROTC instructors
  • Completed Naval Science I

2.Course Description: This course builds on the general introduction provided in Naval Science I. The traits of citizenship and leadership are further developed through promotions and assignment of billets of increased responsibility. The course introduces cadets to several technical subjects of Naval Science. The wearing of a Naval Junior ROTC uniform and maintaining grooming standards is mandatory.

4. Course Requirements

a. Bring textbook, notebook, and pencil or pen to class each day.

c. Students are responsible for assignments missed when they are absent.

d.Students who are absent for a test or quiz will be expected to make it up promptly.

e. Make-ups will be after school at 2:35 p.m.

5. Grading Policy:

Quarterly assessments of the academic grade will consist of:

6. Extra help is always available to students experiencing difficulty. Naval Science Instructors will be available after school at 2:35. You should have specific questions about the material which you do not understand. Don’t wait until the last minute. Seek help as soon as you know you are having difficulty.

7. Wearing of the Navy Junior ROTC uniform, maintaining grooming standards, and demonstrating proper bearing is fundamental to the NJROTC course. In NS 2 and 4 there are no make-ups for failing to wear the uniform on inspection day. If absent, student MUST wear the uniform the first day back at school. In addition, failure to maintain grooming standards results in 50 points off for excessive hair and another 50 points for failing to shave and automatic zero for wearing an earring (males) in uniform. Wear the earring on non-uniform days if you desire.

8. Please encourage your student to join the many after school activities on Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday each week. After school activities consist of drill teams/color guard/PT team/Academic team/Cyber Patriot team/homework assistance, and raider team activities.
