Web-Based Data Collection

Web-based data collection uses wedge readers, RFDC (Radio Frequency Data Collection) terminals, or other similar devices. You can use any web-based data collection device that supports Internet Explorer or Intermec® dcBrowser™.

With validation enabled, transactions can be saved immediately to the ERP SL database. The system validates the Information and detects errors as the transactions are entered. When validation is disabled, such as when the main ERP SL database is down, the transactions are stored in a separate database and uploaded during replication when the main database is restored.

Web-based data collection allows you to enter data with a keyboard, bar code wedge reader, RFDC terminals, or other web-based collection devices that support Internet Explorer or Intermec dcBrowser.

Style sheets are provided for the following:

• Intermec CK30

• Internet Explorer using wedge barcode reader and/or keyboard data entry. (24x80 display format)

The dcBrowser gateway allows graphical and character-based terminals to run the same Web-hosted, HTML-based applications. The gateway automatically intercepts the HTML Web page and translates the data fields into formatted text messages compatible with the native language of the terminal. dcBrowser is HTML 3.1 compatible.

The dcBrowser gateway loads directly onto the Microsoft Windows Server (v4.0 or higher). It’s configured with a server address and home page to be used by default by all RFDC devices being used. As a device is added, its IP address and port to the gateway are set and the browser client begins operation. No knowledge of URLs or special training to use the gateway is necessary.

Intermec CK30 is the default device currently supported with a provided style sheet. Other Intermec devices can be used but may require modifications to the style sheet including:

Character-based terminals running DOS or real time OS:

• 2400 Family including 2415, 2435, 2475, 2485, and 2486

• 1100, 1700, 5900

• 6400

Graphic-based terminals running Windows (PocketPC®, WinCE®):

• 700, and 700 color

• 5020, 5023

Connecting to Web-Based Data Collection

Use the name of the data collection virtual directory installed previously in the

URL to connect to Web-based data collection from your specific device. For

example, enter http://mywebservername/datacollectionvirtualdirectoryname/

specific style sheet used. Enter one of the values below in the URL to use that

stylesheet.

The Web-based data collection style sheets are installed on the Web server at

C:\INETPUB\wwwroot\fsDataCollection\Web, which contains the following

subdirectories.

For instance, use the URL

http://huuyoi2/fsdatacollection/login.asp?browser=default

http://mywebservername/

datacollectionvirtualdirectoryname/login.asp?browser=default to connect with

the default style sheet.

If you’re using Windows Server 2003 as your Web server, go to

the Virtual Directory created for DC (fsDataCollection), right click it

and select Properties, click on the Configuration button, select

the App Options tab and make sure that Enable parent paths is

selected.

If you run into connection timeout errors (Server.Execute failed),

you may need to increase the connection timeout setting on your

web server machine. Within the Internet Services Manager,

select your Web Server in the left pane, then select the DC Web

site in the right pane and right-click on it. Select Properties.

Select the Web Site tab. Increase the Connection Timeout, and

make sure that HTTP Keep-Alives Enabled is selected.

You can also create a custom xml menu file for each user. If you do so, you

must enter the name of the XML menu file for each user in the Web DC Menu

field on the Users form. This field defaults to * (asterisk), which uses the

standard XML menu file (Menu.xml). This file is installed on the web server at:

C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\FSDataCollection\Web\Wedge\Menu\Menu.xml. See the

online help for this field for more information.

You can use any Web-based data collection device that supports Internet

Explorer or Intermec dcBrowser. You may need to modify a provided

stylesheet or create your own depending on your specific hardware

requirements
