Course Description:The JAG Program has been developed to teach students the basic skills of career readiness that lead to profitable job skills. The JAG Program will also teach basic skills required for work and independent living.

Course Objective:The objective of the JAG Program is to help student graduate high school, prepare students for employment and independent living using hands-on activities, competency instruction, career exploration and work experience.

Essential Outcomes: The 37 JAG Core Competencies

Assessments:Students will undergo the following required assessments to assist in the development of an individualized plan of action to address student personal and academic needs to encourage high school completion:

• JAG Knowledge Assessment
• Career Interest Assessment
• Basic Skills Assessment

JAG students will take a Pre-test and Post-test to measure growth.

Attendance/Participation:Attendance and class participation is required. Students who miss more than (5 excused or 4 unexcused) classes will see a reduction in their academic grade. Participation is graded according to the specialist’s discretion. The student’s grade will reflect the amount of engagement in discussions, projects, team challenges and field trip/guest speaker activities.

Grading System:The grading policy consists of the following components:

• Project Completions through Career Associationparticipation
• Competency Instruction
• Class Participation, including Community Service
• Portfolio Development
• Attendance
• Quizzes
• Final Project

Projects:Each unit incorporates activities or projects that will provide students with hands-on experiences to reinforce learning objectives.

Behavior:Positive behavior will be rewarded and recognized in the JAG classroom. Helping others is not only appreciated, it’s encouraged. Put downs and disrespectful comments or attitudes are not tolerated. Come into the JAG classroom with a positive attitude and a willingness to improve your life. The schools behavior policy applies in the JAG classroom. WPHS code of conduct will be followed. Professional behavior expected when guest speakers or visitors are present.

Materials Needed:Bring a writing utensil EVERYDAY! Be prepared for your job!
