Virtual NY Presentations - Speaking Points

Improved Data Visualization

  • Current mapping solutions across the state are stylistically all over the place.
  • It’s hard to read data when it’s displayed in a list format
  • We propose that its much cleaner and easier to understand if its all being shown using a consistent look and feel
  • You can toggle each individual data layer on and off at your leisure.

Statue of Liberty

  • Demonstrates some of Google Earth’s multi-media and social networking capabilities
  • Videos, Panoramic 360degree and still photos, Wikipedia, Twitter, YouTube, etc.
  • Ability customize the User Experience to highlight Points of Interest we want to emphasize
  • The bubble – fully customizable with the web links and content we desire
  • Demonstrates ability to integrate “Google content” (e.g. the endless photos contributed by everyday citizens, with our own desired content )

Appalachian Trail

  • At a high level, able to see the entire Appalachian trail as well as where it passes through NYS
  • As we zoom into finer detail we are able to see the specific Parking sites and shelters along the trail to aid us in planning our excursion
  • Capability to get additional details (services available, weather, etc) associated with any specific shelters or parking facility
  • The “tour” capability allows prospective hikers to get a perspective of the distance, terrain, and environment they will experience on their excursion

Government Engagement

  • Ability to design the content to differentiate past, live, and future events
  • Ability to customize what information (in the bubble) we want to share about each type of event
  • Could be used to aid in communicating any kind of public event to constituents
  • Leverages existing resources such as the Governor’s flicker page for photos

Economic Development

  • There are many sites available in Utica, my chosen place to move my business to.
  • But I need Rail connected to my lot.
  • So there’s really only one choice for me.
  • And I’d also like to see what types of things are accessible to my Employees and I if I purchase this commercial property.
  • If I pull out on the map to see multiple counties at once I can look at demographic information to decide if the area that I’ve chosen is actually going to be a good fit.
  • First we’ll see population by block level.
  • Then we see Median Income by block level.
  • Using these I can see that moving my business to this part of NY would benefit me greatly.

Flooding (all data is mocked up)

  • Begin with statewide look at the current state of flooding in NY
  • You can see the Flood warning areas highlighted
  • Along with 511NY Alerts, Bridge closings and Photos in the surrounding areas
  • Zooming into a localized view you can see:
  • Multiple degrees of flooding warnings, low medium to high
  • 511NY alerts, closed bridges, red cross shelters, food pantries, and photos from citizens in the affected arteas.

Relocation Segment

  • Ability to see details surrounds of any particular address of interest (e.g. new work / home)
  • Ability to get a perspective of a typical commute including driving directions and travel time
  • “Tour” functionality provides a mechanism to “experience” my daily commute to the office
  • Ability to get a perspective on the services and points of interest in my new community (daycare, schools / school report cards, parks, public transit, etc.).

Crime Reporting

  • Provides a mechanism to drill down crime data from very high-level statewide statistics and trends, to very specific incidents at a specific street address
  • “Time Slider” capability provides a mechanism to visualize crime trends over a pre-defined time period. For example, “What have been the Overall / Violent crime trends in Albany county over the past 10 years”
  • Can apply that same trending analysis at the County / ORI (police precinct) level
  • Incident level data could be used to monitor specific crime levels or crime types by neighborhood, looking for trends. By publishing incidents to a public site, could also be used as a replacement for citizen “FOIL” requests on specific crime events.

Indian Point Evacuation

  • Provides a simple mechanism to identify points of interest (shelters, bus stops, hotels, etc) within pre-defined radius of the power plant (2 mile, 5 mile, 10 mile, etc.)
  • Specific details (e.g. address, phone, operating hours, etc.) associated with any of those points of interest would also be available.
  • Ability to display pre-defined evacuation routes and integrate with real-time traffic camera data (e.g. NY511)

Prison Closings

  • Here we can see the 7 prison closings around the state
  • If we focus on the Oneida Correctional Facility we can see all of the businesses that would qualify for tax credits by hiring ex prison employees.

Real Time Data

  • Demonstrates the ability to integrate a wide variety of content ranging from real-time traffic cameras to monitoring the movement of physical assets or individuals
  • These are just a very few examples of how this technology could be leveraged
  • Parolee / Sex Offender tracking
  • Asset tracking (emergency vehicles, high value assets)
  • Service provider tracking (air/ground ambulance, public transit buses)
  • High Risk personnel tracking (Police/Parole/Probation officers)

Niagara Falls

  • Same points as discussed under Statue of Liberty.
