Role: Marketing Officer / Team: Marketing TeamPurpose of role:
To increase awareness of Friends of the Earth’s work through professional marketing knowledge and expertise. / Reports to: Marketing Manager
Deliver outcomes:
Develop and deliver marketing and communications plans for major activities and projects across the marketing mix.
Apply market research and supporter insight to marketing activities and use specialist knowledge to apply communications theory to provide the best possible supporter experience and connection with brand.
Contribute to the development of the organisational marketing plan and to evaluating the effectiveness of marketing activity.
Supporting the development of marketing standards and marketing skills across the organisation.
Deliver the objective for discrete projects that may involve a project team, balancing their time between work arising from the project and other ongoing work;prioritising effectively and working with other project team members to bring their experience to bear on the common objective in accordance with Project Management Guidelines
Develop others:
Work with other staff to ensure that they cooperate willingly in supporting the marketing strategy
Support less experienced team members.
Recruit volunteers including intern or placement students, government-sponsored trainee schemes, train, supervise and review their work
May have delegated authority for allocating and managing the work of other staff or consultants
Build relationships:
Build and maintain relationships within Friends of the Earth and with representatives of external bodies including marketing project partners, celebrities, PR agencies, and other NGOs to support delivery of marketing strategies.
Ideas and solutions:
Contribute to team planning and strategic communications and marketing development.
Develop strategy, policies and tools and tactics relevant to own work area
Use creative skills to increase Friends of the Earth’s public profile. / Person Specification Criteria
Essential
- Experience of design and analysis of market research; able to apply insight to inform marketing activities
- Marketing experience within cross-organisational project teams; with proven ability to develop, manage and evaluate creative marketing projects that deliver on objectives and improve supporter experience across media platforms
- Project management experience, able to identify ambitious marketing objectives and provide the planning, coordination and stakeholder management to deliver these for project teams
- Good understanding of and ability to design supporter journeys
- Experience of writing and managing creative briefs and working with creative in-house teams or agencies.
- Ability to build relationships, connect with and manage a wide range of stakeholders.
- Confidence and excellent verbal and written communication skills in dealing with a wide range of people.
- Excellent grammar, proofreading and copywriting skills; web skills, including the ability to work with documents on and offline.
- Proven ability to write marketing materials and articles for publication to a high standard.
- Proven understanding of how to use digital techniques and channels to enhance marketing activity.

Occasional travel and out of hours work – eg for marketing projects/events.
