Course introduction:

Pronunciation is one of the difficulties for foreign students to learn Chinese. Whether the pronunciation is correct or not will directly affect the students' "listening" and "speaking", and affect the language use. The main teaching object is basic pronounce knowledge, including Chinese vowels, consonants, tone, spelling rules. According to this course, we aim to help students learn faster and have a more solid Chinese pronunciation foundation, form correct pronunciation habits, which is the foundation for learning Chinese.

This will be opened in the first semester.

Basic requirements:

Students should understand and master the basic knowledge of Chinese phonetics.

Chapter 1 Simple Vowels

Teaching aims and requirements:

Understand and grasp the 7 simple vowels’ pronunciation position and method to distinguish the key consonants.

Teaching content:

Understand and grasp the 7 vowels pronunciation.

Distinguish similar vowels.

Able to write syllables correctly according to spelling rules.

Key Points and Difficulties:

Key Points: pronunciation position and distinguish the simple vowels.

Difficulty: pronunciation and distinguish of i、ü.

Chapter 2 Consonants

Teaching aims and requirements:

Understand and master the position and pronouncing method of the pronunciation of the 21 consonants, and distinguish key consonants.

Teaching content:

Understand and grasp the 21 consonant pronunciation.

Distinguish similar consonants.

Key Points and Difficulties:

Key Points: the apical consonants and the alveol-platal consonants.

Difficulties: the blade-alveolar consonants (z、c、s), the blade-platal consonants (zh、ch、sh、r), and the alveol-platal consonants (j、q、x)

Chapter 3 Tones

Teaching aims and requirements:

Understand and master Chinese four tone pitch, pronunciation and the distinction.。

Teaching content:

Understand and master the pronunciation of the four tons.

Distinguish the four tones and understand the difference between them.

Key Points and Difficulties:

Key Points: the pronunciation of four tones

Difficulties: the 2nd tone and the 4th tone

Chapter 4 Compound Vowels

Teaching aims and requirements:

understand and grasp the pronunciation position of the 13 compound vowels and 16 nasal vowels, distinguish the key vowels.

Teaching content:

Understand and grasp the pronunciation of the 29 compound vowel.

Distinguish similar vowels.

Able to write syllables correctly according to spelling rules.

Key Points and Difficulties:

Key Points: pronunciation and spelling rules of compound vowels

Difficulties: pronunciation and distinction of the compound vowels started with i、ü.

Chapter 5 Chinese Syllables

Teaching aims and requirements:

Understand and master the rules of Chinese syllable spelling, disyllabic and polysyllabic pronunciation.

The composition of Chinese syllables

Spelling of Chinese syllables

Use of sound insulation symbols

Disyllabic and polysyllabic pronunciation

Chapter 6 Change of Tones

Chapter 7 Change of Sound

Teaching aims and requirements:

Understand and grasp the pronunciation and meaning of neutral tone and retroflexion, master the phonetic pronunciation rules and methods of “啊”.

Teaching content:

Mastering the pronunciation of Chinese neutral tone.

Understand the commonly used words in neutral tone, understand the meaning represented by neutral tone.

Master the Chinese pronunciation rules of retroflexion.

Understand the different types and the meaning of retroflexion.

Master several change of “啊”.

Master the phonetic pronunciation method of “啊”.

Oral communication is an important part of Chinese learning. Practical, flexibility and immediacy are the main features of spoken Chinese. The main teaching objectives is the Chinese daily expression, including greeting, inquiry, requirement, invitation, receiving customers and going out, which aims to help students to master the basic oral communication in their daily life.

This course is 90 hours , opened in the second to fourth term.

Basic requirements:

Students should understand and master the basic expression of oral Chinese.
