AGHA PhDAWARDS 2017

The members of the Australian Genomics Health Alliance share a commitment to building the capacity of clinical genomics in Australia, and supporting the evolution of thenext generation of the genomic workforce.

The AGHA is allocating $100,000 to PhD Awards, commencing in 2017 and extending for three years.

Ideally, top-up awardsof $10,000 per annum will be extended to high-achieving students who have successfully attractedPhD scholarships (e.g. the Australian Postgraduate Award), however other applications will be considered.

Applications are invited from across the AGHA for PhD projects administered through our partner institutions, and supervised by at least one AGHA Investigator.

The AGHA PhD Awards will be directed to projects that are well aligned with the goals of the Australian Genomics Health Alliance. Projects that involve collaborative engagement between AGHA Programs and Flagships will be prioritised.

Applications for projects will be presented to the National Steering Committee and Community Advisory Groupfor evaluation and discussion, and will be awarded to the three most eligible Projects/Students.

Conditions

  • The project must commence in 2017 and be a maximum of three years duration
  • Projects must be administered by an AGHA Partner Institute and supervised by at least one AGHA Investigator as listed on the Multi-Institute Agreement
  • The student must be an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident with an exceptional academic record and appropriate qualifications to apply for the PhD degree
  • The student must abide by the terms of the AGHA Multi-Institute Agreement – the rights and responsibilities of the student are detailed therein (copy available on request). Notably, all publications/presentations arising from the Project must acknowledge the Australian Genomics Health Alliance
  • The AGHA National Steering Committee (NSC) and Community Advisory Group (CAG) will evaluate the applications for the AGHA PhD Award. If student details are unavailable at the time of application, these must be provided and approved by the NSC and CAG before the Award is granted
  • Annual reports on the project’s progress must be provided to monitor satisfactory progress and continued alignment with AGHA goals
