Position Summary:As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, the incumbent works with the target population defined by the Mental Health Program to enable this target population to achieve optimal health and well-being through applying the plans, policies, and resources of the Mental Health Program. In addition, as a member of the interdisciplinary team provides comprehensive assessment, case management and treatment to older individuals experiencing complex mental health problems and their families. The Worker also provides consultation services to community and facility based professional’s as well public and professional education. This position functions in accordance with the Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority’s (IERHA) mission, vision, and values.
Qualifications:
- B.Sc.M.H, RPN, BN, RN, BSW, B.H.Ec. (Family Studies) or BMR with active applicable registration/license and three (3) years directly related experience in a clinical setting required.
- Certificate in Gerontology an asset
- Four years experience in comprehensive assessment and treatment of geriatric mental health
problems including some or all of the following:
-experience in varied psychiatric and geriatric treatment settings, both inpatient and community based.
-experience in case management.
- ASIST Certificate (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) required.
- In-depth knowledge of the geriatric client’s physiological and psychosocial needs and functioning.
- In-depth knowledge of issues related to the care of elderly psychiatric clients.
- Knowledge of co-occurring disorders, i.e. addictions and mental health, developmental delay and
mental health, and the related impact on family dynamics.
- Knowledge of community resources and procedures related to accessing the available services.
- Knowledge of Psychiatric Disorders/Clinical Syndromes.
- Knowledge of Pharmacology.
- Knowledge of Recovery Model/Empowerment theory.
- Knowledge of Mental Health Act.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- A positive attitude toward learning, growth and health.
- Ability to related and interact with clients of diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
- Good physical and mental health to meet the demands of the position required.
- Valid driver’s license and vehicle are required.
- Satisfactory employment record required.
