A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE TRICOUNTY ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE ON ITS QUICK RESPONSE IN RETURNING POWER TO ITS CUSTOMERS FOLLOWING WINTER STORMS LEON AND PAX.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn of the outstanding job done by the TriCounty Electric Cooperative in restoring power to customers during the aftermath of winter storms Leon and Pax; and

Whereas, Winter Storm Leon delivered a long swath of snow and ice from parts of Texas to the coastal Southeast, coastal MidAtlantic, and coastal Northeast from January 28 into January 29, 2014. The storm caused widespread and severe travel problems in portions of the South. Winter Storm Pax pushed two rounds of wintry weather across the South from February 10 to February 13. The second round produced the heaviest amounts of freezing rain, sleet, and snow across the region from late February 11 through early February 13; and

Whereas, to the challenges posed by these storms, TriCounty Electric Cooperative, led by Heath Hill, board president, and fully supported by CEO Chad Lowder, responded with decision, compassion, and efficiency in restoring utility service to its customers. Attesting to the dedication of the TriCounty crews, Dr. John Rheney in his March 9 Times and Democrat outdoors column wrote of how extensive storm damage was in rural areas, several times praising TriCounty Electric Cooperative for its efforts to restore his power; and

Whereas, operational for more than sixtyfive years, TriCounty Electric Cooperative provides a range of electric services to assist with the economic development of Calhoun, Lexington, Orangeburg, Richland, Kershaw, and Sumter counties in South Carolina; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives, grateful for the commitment of TriCounty Electric Cooperative, takes great pleasure in commending the institution on its fine work in helping return the lives of stormaffected South Carolinians to normal after winter storms Leon and Pax. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend TriCounty Electric Cooperative on its quick response in returning power to its customers following winter storms Leon and Pax.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to TriCounty Electric Cooperative.
