GUIDELINES

These guidelines provide information about the Argyle Community Housing Tertiary Scholarships (the Scholarship).

What is the purpose of the Scholarship?

The Scholarship is a one year grant of money that will provide financial assistance to Argyle tenants who are starting, or continuing, an approved tertiary course of study.

Scholarships are up to $1500.00 each (for 2015/16) with one scholarship available to be awarded to a successful applicant at each Argyle office site (7 in total). The monetary value of the Scholarship will be reviewed annually by the Argyle Board of Directors.

Who can apply for a Scholarship?

1. You can apply for an Argyle Scholarship if you meet the following eligibility criteria:

·  You are currently living in a social or affordable property owned or managed by Argyle Housing

·  You have lived in an Argyle property for at least 12 months

2. You are 16 years or older

3. You are enrolled as a full-time or part time student in an approved university, TAFE or other vocational course through a Registered Training Organisation, of at least six (6) months duration.

Full-time or part-time study

You must be enrolled full-time or part-time in your course as outlined above. Part-time students must be enrolled in the minimum hours required for part-time study for their course. Part-time students will be entitled to a pro rata equivalent of a full scholarship e.g. students completing half of a full-time load will receive half of the amount for a full-time load ($750).

6 month courses

Students enrolled in courses of six (6) months will be eligible for a pro rata equivalent of a full time scholarship ($750)4. Able to demonstrate personal and financial circumstances that support the claim for a scholarship.

The focus of the Scholarships is to provide financial assistance and support to encourage Argyle residents to engage in and complete tertiary study.

Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of your application rather than on academic merit and will be available regardless of which institution the student enrolls in. Scholarships will be available to new students and students already enrolled in an approved course.

5. Able to demonstrate ongoing satisfactory progress (i.e. pass course requirements)

Students will be required to provide evidence of progress in their course for each semester.

Students who fail to meet requirements of their course to a pass level will be asked to show why they have not completed their course as required. If a satisfactory explanation is not received, the scholarship may be withdrawn. To continue with the scholarship a plan is required, demonstrating how the student intends to meet course requirements in the future e.g. academic supports, mentoring, etc.
