· August 2013 – Participated in DIG TEXAS (Diversity and Innovation for Geosciences in Texas), which is a community of geoscientists and educators across Texas working toward enhanced diversity in geosciences, as well as improved geosciences literacy among Texas high school science teachers.
· June 2013 - Participated in University of Texas’s Texas Earth and Space Science (TXESS) Revolution program: Earthlabs, Confronting the Challenge of Climate Change, which explored three new high school curriculum units that integrate physics, chemistry, and biology to understand the Earth’s natural cycles and the effects of human activity on such cycles.
· June 2012 – Participated in Michigan Tech field class on the geology of Utah’s national parks.
· June 2011 – Participated in Keystone Institute’s “Bringing Environmental Issues to the Classroom” - Investigated current environmental issues using innovative and engaging ideas, activities and methods.
· 2008-11 – Participated in University of Texas’s Texas Earth and Space Science (TXESS) Revolution program. This is a five-year NSF-funded geosciences professional development program for 8th – 12th grade science teachers.
· 2008 - Presented a lesson at the Houston Metropolitan Area Teachers Society (MATS) conference on how to integrate math and science.
· August 2008 - Received a Fund for Teachers Grant to participate in the Geological Society of America’s field expedition to Iceland to learn about geosciences on a Mid-Ocean Ridge. The topics included the biodiversity, geology, glaciers, icebergs and volcanoes of Iceland and geothermal energy transformation.
· July 2008 - Participated in Texas A&M’s G-Camp and obtained curriculum materials to teach the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) objectives required for grades 4 - 12. We explored modern coastal environments, the geologic landscapes of Texas and Colorado, volcanic features, ancient marine deposits, sand dunes, faults, glacial landscapes, streams, landslides, caves, energy resources, and mineral resources.
· March 2008 – Participated in lesson share-a-thons at National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) national conference in Boston, MA.
· 2007 - Participated in lesson share-a-thons at the annual Conference for the Advancement of Science Teachers (CAST) in Austin, Texas.
