- Rationale for the Innovation
This is where you should describe the innovation in detail, explain why you consider it is innovative and provide evidence to support your assertion.
a. Describe the innovation. / Taptrees is the Trust's version of Pearltrees, which is a new visual way to organize, discover and share websites. Web links are organised as a collection of 'Pearls' that are connected by a mind map-like tree graph. Taptrees gives us the ability to share current links with user in real time, to subscribe to other useful Pearltree collections and specifically caters for the user who prefers a visual interface. The flash based pearls open up links in a overlay so readers stay on our site whilst they explore our links. For example we have embedded some of general training presentations, useful YouTube links, Commoncraft training videos, important Trust Websites etc. We have quite a lot of interest from other Pearltree users who have found our links.
b. Explain what makes this different and therefore innovative. / We have adapted yet another web 2.0 tool to improve our service as the interface is visual rather than just text based, this application has added another way to reach our users, particularly those whose learning style is visual. We carefully curate websites we feel are important to users and this way of sharing them is unique and expands the reach of the library. The popularity of this resource is evident as a new app is now available for the Apple I'Pad.
c. What evidence do you have to support this assertion? / Ease of use for promotional and learning opportunities on various media throughout the Trust.
