The Long Hill community is a group of twenty families who live together in the south of England. They have a small farm with animals and ten small houses. Two families live in each house. Their aim is to live without the help of modern technology.
The adults at Long Hill don’t have jobs outside the Community, but they work very hard. They get up early and they have breakfast. Then they start work on the farm or they do housework. The children have lessons in the morning. Their teachers are all members of the Community.
We don’t hate technology, ‘says Martin Edwards, the founder of the Community, ‘but we want a simple natural life. And the technology isn’t simple – or natural!’ So at Long Hill, they don’t use computers or watch TV. They haven’t got phones. So what do they do in the evenings?
