In attendance: Teri Herberger, Matt Hill, RJ Chittams, Donna Carey, Melinda Taylor, John Hickman, Lisa Gray, and Paul Gasior.
Guests: Helena Hill, Humberto Aristizabal, Marvin Pyles, Rhonda Livingston and Wendy Denny.
- Review and Approval of Minutes – Motion was made to approve with corrections by John and seconded by Paul. Minutes approved by consensus.
- Reports
- Human Resources
- Open enrollment for Health Benefits is from Oct. 13th through Nov. 15th.
- Premiums went up 5% for medical and 9% for prescription.
- The Health Benefits Fair will be held October 26th.
- FLSA – some guidelines from the system have been received. We are reviewing the options internally as well as reviewing the positions affected.
- The 2017 Holiday calendar will be sent out soon.
- Administration and Finance
- Coming off of big weekend events, Homecoming/Family Weekend, Sea Gull Century and first tailgating events and all went well.
- Several incidents around the perimeter of campus have prompted the President to call a meeting with local officials to address concerns for student safety.
- Strategic Planning & Budgeting Committee will be co-chaired by Marvin and Kara Siegert. The charge of the committee is to pair the budget with the strategic plan.
- Space Consultants will be on Campus October 24 & 25.
- The FY18 budget has been submitted. Next step is DBM adjustments on Dec. 24th. The governor will submit final budget in January to the legislature.
- Flood damages need to be sent to Kevin Mann or Eric Berkheimer.
- Office of Institutional Equity
- Diversity & Inclusion Priorities – see attached.
- Peace Matters March is scheduled for October 28th.
- CUSS
- Assisting Frostburg with restructuring their staff senate. Meeting with them on October 24, prior to the CUSS Meeting.
- Reminder that BOR Staff Award Nominations need to be submitted by November 15th.
- Next CUSS Meeting is October 25th at Frostburg State University.
- Chair’s Report – Consortium Committee
- The consortium executive committee is in the process of reviewing all the committees and making recommendations.
- Old Business
- Gull Card Plus One Program Update – see updated benefits
- Senate material to archive – moving staff senate minutes, agendas, etc. to the SU Respository.
- New Business
- Staff Assembly – need to hold a meeting in the spring. It was noted that we usually wait until the legislative session has concluded.
- Staff Senate Website – We need to make updates, please send suggestions to Matt and Stephanie.
- Bylaw Update - Suggestions need to be compiled.
- Social Media Policy was received from IT. Teri will forward. Please review.
