Role Context
The fundraising directorate at Marie Curie is at a critical stage in the delivery of its long-term growth strategy. The team has grown income by >13% over the past 3 years - a great achievement in a difficult fundraising climate. But we need to do more. The demand for the services Marie Curie provides is increasing year on year, and we’re determined to meet it with the same high quality end of life care we’re famous for.
In response to this need, the Corporate Development team is expanding. This growth is a reflection of both the strong recent results that have been delivered and a more ambitious strategy to engage corporate partners in relationships that will add value and generate new income that includes but also goes beyond the traditional, “Charity of the Year” partnership model.
The new team member will be responsible for continuing to deliver ambitious growth targets, working with prospectsin a wide range of sectors.
Main purpose of role
The Corporate Development Manager will have the following key responsibilities:
Main Duties
Securing corporate partnership with organisations at a national level and contributing to the development of the fundraising strategy in the Corporate Development team.
- To prospect and identify fundraising and partnership opportunities with corporate organisations at a national level.
- To develop and steward relationships with key decision makers in corporate organisations with an interest in working with the third sector, in order to maximise the partnership opportunities with prospects and existing partners.
- To manage corporate approaches and involvement in a portfolio of national events including gift in kind, volunteering and additional support, co-ordinating with both the events and account management teams.
- To lead and complete formal application processes for partnership opportunities on behalf of Marie Curie Cancer Care to include written proposals, formal presentations and pitches to prospective partner companies and / or their representatives.
- To identify new and innovative partnerships in the corporate sector that can provide new income streams and add value to teams across the charity.
- To support the Head of Corporate Development on special projects and strategic planning.
- To propose new and innovative fundraising initiatives to organisations wishing to partner with Marie Curie Cancer Care, which meet both the needs of the organisation and maximise the opportunities for the charity
- To work closely with the Account Management, Commercial and Statutory teams in the wider Corporate Fundraising team to share information, take new partnership ideas forward and ensure a comprehensive and structured approach at all times.
- To work closely with other fundraising teams including the Major Gifts & Special Events, Individual Giving and Regional Fundraising Teams to share information, take new partnership ideas forward and ensure a comprehensive and structured approach at all times.
- To be knowledgeable about Sponsorship, Cause Related Marketing and commercial partnership and confident in identifying these partnership opportunities
- To liaise with all necessary departments (including Caring Services, Research & Development and Volunteering) to ensure that each area of the charity is represented correctly and appropriately in formal partnership approaches and new opportunities for fundraising are identified.
Other Tasks
- To attend regular Corporate Development, Corporate Fundraising and other team meetings as required.
- To record in detail any immediate and future partnership opportunities using internal procedures including the CARE database and Pipeline, and ensure regular updates are provided in verbal and written form as determined by the Head of Corporate Development.
- With guidance from the Company Secretary, to establish contracts with new corporate partners as required and to ensure that each relationship is negotiated and contractually agreed in order to ensure the highest possible net fundraising opportunities for the charity.
- To maintain a watching brief on the external environment to identify new opportunities for fundraising and other partnerships.
- To respond to all relevant reactive telephone and web enquiries to the charity in a timely and appropriate manner.
- To maintain awareness of other charitable partnerships and campaigns and new trends in fundraising tools and campaigns.
- To ensure best practice by following the Corporate Development and other guidelines and ensuring all approaches are made in line with industry regulations and advice.
- To liaise with the Communications Directorate to share items of news for internal and external charity publications, and ensure communications activities are included appropriately in partnership proposals when required.
