Birchmount Bluffs Neighbourhood Centre (BBNC) is a vibrant multi-service neighbourhood centre serving Southwest Scarborough.Our mission is to work with diverse individuals, families and communities to overcome barriers and enhance quality of life. We do this by fostering social inclusion, developing skills and abilities, and collaborating with our partners to facilitate access to a range of flexible and responsive programs and services.
Currently, BBNC is seeking an energetic and creative individual forour Nursery School, who will be responsible for providing educational programming for children 2 ½-5 years, and informal support and resources for their families. This is a part-time position (17.5 hours per week)operating from September-June for 38 weeks.
Responsibilities:
Plan and implement an age appropriate, stimulating and creative program based on an emergent curriculum that supports skill enhancement in social/emotional, cognitive, fine and gross motor and language development
Adhere to and support the philosophy and behaviour management principles while providing supervision and guidance
Provide informal support to families, ongoing resources on parent education and referrals about community resources
Maintain safety and health requirements, supplies, equipment and assist with housekeeping duties
Organize and maintain children’s records
Supervise students and volunteers
Plan and conduct outreach and marketing strategies to isolated families
Perform administrative tasks
Qualifications:
Registered Early Childhood Educator (R.E.C.E.)
Excellent knowledge of child development, emergent curriculum and behaviour management
Experience working with people of diverse cultures and backgrounds in a communitybased setting
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written and communicational skills
Effective problem solving strategies with a conflict and resolution style
Experience in working with children with special needs and provisions for providing adaptations
Ability to work cooperatively in a team setting
Working knowledge of the Day Nurseries Act and Ministry of Education licensing requirements
Valid First Aid/CPR certificateand police reference check
Computer skills (word, excel, access, internet & email)
Second language, particularly Mandarin, is an asset
Remuneration: $17.50 hr.Days: Monday-Thursday am & Monday and Wednesday pm
