Shania Twain is a very committed student who is methodical in her research and ambitious in her aspirations. Good analytical drawing, refined and practised through much extra-curricular life drawing both in and outside of school, has given her a sound foundation for her research and finished product, and her broad exploration has resulted in a synthesis of styles and an idiosyncratic technique which is at once mature in vision and increasingly confident in execution. She is able to evaluate successes and serendipitous effects and builds, exponentially, on work done.

She is equally intellectually engaged with the subject with a sound knowledge of context and history which she is able to share with articulate aplomb. Her most recent works in Caran D’Ache successfully revisited classical themes and, appropriately, her chosen symposium theme was ‘Postmodernism and Theatre Design’.

Her commitment is apparent, not only in the quality of her finished work but also in the sustained and independent research evident in her work journals.

She achieved a well deserved ‘A* at GCSE,’ and will, without doubt, satisfy the examiners of work beyond the expectations of the syllabus this year.

Her commitment to the subject is apparent in her involvement beyond the timetable: she has also accompanied the department on trips to Barcelona and she also regularly attends weekend life drawing workshops. As regards the wider life of the school, she always rises to requests, not least of all designs for school graphics.

Queen Elizabeth II is confident, amenable, a self-starter and capable of sustained independent study to a high level.

Queen Elizabeth II is a committed and talented practitioner. She has gained experience in a broad range of media during her art studies including paint, etching and screen printing. At present, figurative painting is her primary focus.

Her commitment is apparent, not only in the quality of her finished work but also in the sustained and independent research evident in her very personal work journals which have benefited from travel, particularly to Venice: an experience which informed a successful multimedia work on the subject of carnival.

Her drawing is impressively mature. It is confident, analytical, refined and practised through much extracurricular life drawing. This has given her a sound foundation for her research and finished product, and her broad exploration has resulted in a synthesis of styles and an idiosyncratic technique which is at once expressive in rendering but subtle in tone; mature in vision and confident in execution.

She is equally intellectually engaged with the subject with a sound knowledge of context and history which she is able to share with articulate aplomb.

She has also been involved in extracurricular workshops, expeditions to galleries and a trip to Barcelona.

Queen Elizabeth II is confident, amenable, a self-starter and capable of sustained independent study to a high level.

She achieved a well deserved ‘A*’ at GCSE and A at AS, satisfying the examiners of work well beyond the expectations of the syllabus.

Queen Elizabeth II is invariably enthusiastic, confident, amenable, a self-starter and capable of sustained independent study to the highest level.

Marie Currie is a very able and enthusiastic biologist. She is always very engaged in her lessons and her frequent contributions to lessons indicate a strong grasp of the concepts we have covered in the course as well as an appreciation of some of wider applications and implications of those concepts. Marie Currie ’s written work is clear and detailed and she is very adept at manipulating data and using it to solve problems. She carries out practical investigations with great care and attention to detail and her recent contributions to her interdisciplinary science project have demonstrated her ability to work collaboratively with groups of her peers. Marie Currie ’s enthusiasm and aptitude for the subject make her a pleasure to teach and I am confident that she will make a success of the challenging university course she has chosen.

·  If relevant, please comment freely under the following headings:

·  Extra-curricular activities/other interests: (if you are aware of a particular contribution made by this individual e.g. participation in exchanges/expeditions; leadership of societies/clubs; participation in drama/music/sport; role as form assistant, etc.)

·  Personal attributes: (if you feel this individual has particular strengths which might not emerge elsewhere and are relevant to a university application. Precise examples of positive qualities being demonstrated are helpful.)

·  Factors which might influence performance: (if you are aware of any circumstances relevant to this pupil’s performance in your subject which have not been indicated elsewhere, e.g. lessons missed through ill health, a specified learning or physical disability, etc.)

Curly’s Wife is a committed and talented practitioner.

Curly’s Wife has a lot of potential in biology. She produced two excellent essays during the course (one under test conditions) showing that she has very good essay writing skills. Curly’s Wife possesses very good research and teamwork skills; she and her partner put together a very good oral and power point presentation on “The use of fertilisers in farming to improve food production” Curly’s Wife can handle the oral presentation of complicated technical detail with style.

She consolidates her work well after lessons and can achieve very high marks for her end of topic tests and examinations.

Pat Butcher is an outstanding student of biology, consistently obtaining excellent marks for all her end of topic tests and examinations taken over the year. She works hard and is prepared to listen to advice in order to improve her work as shown by the improvement in her already very good essay technique, from the water to the enzyme essays that she has completed. Her work is full of detail and when required flows beautifully. Pat Butcher possesses very good research and teamwork skills; she and her partner put together a very good oral and power point presentation on “The use of fertilisers in farming to improve food production” Pat Butcher can handle the oral presentation of complicated technical detail with style. I would support Pat Butcher ’s application to any course that she choses as she is a very academically gifted student.

Madonna is the top biology student in this class of very clever girls. She is a very quiet girl, however she will contribute to discussions in class when asked to do so and her answers are always worth taking note of, as they are well thought out, concise, but still containing all the necessary detail. She can produce lovely concise, detailed essays. Madonna shows good research and teamwork skills as she and a partner put together a very good oral and power point (good use of ICT) presentation on the "Use of antibiotics in farming to raise food Production". Madonna can be relied upon to always consolidate on her work outside of the classroom resulting in her achieving excellent marks for all the end of topic tests and examinations she has taken during the year. Any University should be pleased to have such a good student as Madonna .

Maggie Thatcher is always very involved in her lessons and her frequent contributions to class discussion demonstrate a sharp mind and background knowledge of the subject which is both detailed and rather pleasingly eclectic in its subject matter (she knows a huge amount about dinosaurs for example!) Her understanding of the concepts we have covered in the AS course is excellent and her written work demonstrates a promising ability to communicate that understanding in clear and unfussy terms. Her practical work is carried out with care and attention to detail and she is developing a pleasing ability to critically evaluate experimental methods and the results they yield. Francis-May’s enthusiasm and positive attitude make her a pleasure to teach and she would be an asset to any university course.

Jackie Brown is a very well motivated biologist with an excellent work ethic. She has worked diligently all year, is always engaged in lessons and contributes in an articulate and confident manner to class discussions indicating her inquisitive nature and a general desire to satisfy her hunger for knowledge. Jackie Brown takes a great deal of care over her work and is systematic in her approach to challenging problems. She is an independent student who works effectively with minimum support from her teachers but also demonstrates strong interpersonal skills when asked to work as part of a team.

Sarah Palin has battled against health issues without any fuss or request for special treatment and has held her place in a bright class. She is academically bright. She writes clearly and appropriately for the task, with good use of technical vocabulary, whether it is logic structure, fluent prose or neat comparisons. She makes links between topics, makes use of her chemical knowledge when studying molecules, uses her textbook and retains her GCSE knowledge, such as the name of an enzyme used in genetic engineering. She can use data and work out how to calculate values from common sense and logic. She can deal with data presented in graphs or tables, and she can suggest ideas for herself, such as reasons for a drop in mortality rates due to tuberculosis from a time graph. She has a good grasp of experimental design. Her mock exam, at 82% was a sound A grade. Some areas needed to have been better revised and a few of her exam techniques lapsed under pressure: I think she will be able to do better still in the real exam with better preparation.

Jemima Puddle-Duck is an outstandingly inquisitive and well-informed biologist. She demonstrates a voracious appetite for knowledge and mirrors her hunger in lessons for more material than the syllabus can offer her. Frances-May’s breadth of knowledge and flair for asking perceptive questions of the biological mechanisms she has studied have impressed throughout the year. She has demonstrated great skill in communicating her understanding of biological mechanisms. She is able synthesis complex information quickly and can relay ideas to her colleagues clearly and in novel ways. Her work is always of the highest standard including in her ability to respond to novel data. This has been evident in excellent test results including those on the circulatory and breathing systems. Her academic ability combined with her drive and determination make her very well suited to her chosen university course and I am confident that she will make a success of it.
