2017 CREATIVE ART COMPETITION

ELIGIBILITY: Any student in 5th through 12th grade in Nassau or Suffolk County may submit an entry.

Each piece should be an original work of the student’s own creation, and MUST have a rationale/artist’s statement. PLEASE FILL OUT THE RELEASE FORM (Required) AND USE AS A COVER SHEET. The title should be on each submission and accompanying documentation. Each entry must conform to the guidelines and format appropriate to its category.

GUIDELINES FOR EACH CATEGORY

VISUAL ART—Painting/drawing, photography, sculpture/multimedia

All works on paper must be matted and ready for hanging with a hook on the back. All framed works must have wires for hanging. Sculpture and multimedia pieces must have sturdy bases.

We will accept art submissions MARCH 6-10, BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 9 AM AND 5 PM.

All art work may be picked up from the Center after the Awards Ceremony on April 30—any art left after July 31, 2017 will become the property of HMTC.

MUSIC & VIDEO:

All entries must be submitted electronically either in audio or video, compatible with PC. You may send by flash drive or online storage such as Dropbox or Google Drive. They must be post-marked by March 10. Please provide a brief written document explaining the inspiration and creative process behind the musical composition or multi-media creation. Original songs need not be accompanied by sheet music, but please include lyric sheet. Original compositions that include instrumentation must be accompanied by sheet music.

LITERATURE—Poetry, prose:

All submissions must be in a word document sent via email to . You may also share the document via Google Drive or Dropbox. Please use a standard font (such as Times New Roman) with standard margins. Please center title at top of page in bold print. Prose and drama entries must be double-spaced and are not to exceed 5 pages. All submissions must be proofread and free from spelling and grammatical errors.

Awards Ceremony:

All students who submit an entry will receive a certificate of participation. The Awards Ceremony will be held the afternoon of Sunday, April 30, 2017. Winning art entries will be photographed for inclusion on our website and social media. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Prize are granted by category and school level. Group entries will be considered as one entry and the award will go to the submitting school.

Deadlines: All entries must be submitted by March 10, 2017.
