HOW TO PREPARE FOR NSCC RECRUIT TRAINNING

The USNSCC-1MC provides up-to-date information/announcements immediately disseminated from USNSCC National Headquarters and other resources through receipt of Action Letters, Information Letters, Memorandums, and flash correspondences regarding the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps

BEFORE doing anything, read the NSCC INFORMATION LETTER 05-13 located on the main advanced training schedules page CAREFULLY. THEN…
- click on SUMMER TRAINING icon
- open the advanced training schedule link by clicking on the “+” sign
- click on the advanced training schedule link
- locate your training and click on that link
- available training will be displayed (see below)
Note the elements above that you need to know to prepare the training request.
Once you have selected the traininig you wish to attend; read the information for the training carefully. Above you will note that as well as the training code, location, cost and dates of training you will see the name, phone number and email address of the officer in charge of the training (COTC). Below that in the REMARKS paragraph are specific instructions you must comply with. You may be directed to a website where you will find additional forms or instructions; this paragraph will tell you if you need certain waivers, copy of current ID card, etc. In some cases you will be told that unit CO’s are to contact the COTC NOT the cadet; in such case YOU must notify your CO that he/she must contact the COTC. If not otherwise instructed, you must send the COTC an email and request a slot. Include the return email with you submitted package for training.
On the main summer training schedules page you will find the basic forms you will need to complete and submit to your unit to request training. From this page you will need:
- Training Authority (Request) - Cadet (NSCTNG 001)
Then, click on the ALL OTHER NSCC TRAINING FORMS LINK
- NSCC/NLCC TRAINING CHECK OFF LIST (Rev 05/10) (NSCTNG 013)
Cadets requesting training shall download these and any other form required by the specific training
- Complete them on your computer (for clarity and uniformity)
- Have parent sign and initial where indicated
- Make sure you type your CO’s name, phone number and email at the bottom of the NSCTNG 001 and NSCTNG 013 (look on the POM for this information)
SUBMITTING YOUR TRAINING REQUEST:
- Inspect your training request and check-off list to ensure that every block is completed
- Make a copy of you current NSCC ID card (make sure the expiration date extends well past the end date of the training you are attending
- Purchase a money order for the amount of the training (purchase from post office or 7-11)
- Prepare an envelope with the name and address of the COTC
- Place a stamp on the envelope
- Submit original of all above to your training officer
- You will be provided an address to send applications to
Now that you have completed your application you will need to work on completing the prerequesites for training (SEE BELOW) Submit your application first then work on other requirements – DO NOT WAIT TO SUBMIT FORMS.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- You will either receive a welcome letter from the training COTC or you will be directed to a website where you will be given further instructions to include a SEA BAG LIST.
- This list will contain a list of clothing and equipment you are required to bring to training; it also identifies prohibited items.
- You are responsible for having the clothing and equipment on this list.
- You must bring all of the equipment on the sea bag list to drill where it will be insepcted and the inspecting officer will initial the check-off list. If you are not prepared you will not be permitted to continue.
You must go to the Homeport > from the main page locate the “Cadet Advancement”—click on it.
- Click on the “+” sign next to “Correspondence Courses”
- Click on “Basic Military Requirements” (BMR)
- You must compete the following chapters BEFORE going to training in order to be properly prepared to be successful at Recruit Training :
- Chapter 1 (ASSIGNMENT 1), sections on Hazing, Sexual Harassment, and Fraternization and
- Chapters 5 (ASSIGNMENT 3), 6 (ASSIGNMENT 4), 9 (ASSIGNMENT 6), and 10 (ASSIGNMENT 6) prior to reporting to recruit training.
Each of the above Chapters is followed up with completing the exam or ASSIGNMENT. Read the Chapter then take the open book exam. Mark you answers on a sheet of paper then go to the unit website at And click on either the “Links” or “Cadet Advancement” page and look for the “USNSCC Answer sheet” link. Open the online form and select your answers. Make sure you fill in the information in the heading and select the BMR course and exam assignment. When finished click the submit button. NOTE: this form does not save work in progress so you need to have your answers available and start and finish in one setting.
