POLICE OFFICER/POLICE STAFF

ROLE SPECIFIC INFORMATION
Job Title: / Police Staff Investigator

Salary Band: / Salary: Lower Band C /Band C - £19,521 - £26,535
(Plus relevant shift allowances dependent on shift pattern)

Reporting to: / Detective Sergeant or Investigation Team Sergeant/Supervisor
Specific Role Purpose: / Working as part of an Investigation team, delivering a high quality level of service to the public whilst adopting virtual techniques of investigation.
Gathering and securing evidence to support criminal investigations using a range of media including telephone and other virtual methods. Providing crime prevention advice and signposting.
Specific Role Responsibilities: / ·  Maximise proportionate resolution of incident logs/crimes.
·  Take written statements from victims and witnesses in accordance with the law and with reference to the Victims Charter and current guidance.
·  Ensure enquiries are carried out quickly and efficiently as directed by the Supervisor or investigating officer in accordance with investigation policy.
·  Secure and preserve the best evidence through thorough investigation in order to detect crime and the prosecution of offenders, to include:
o  Retrieval, retention and reviewing of CCTV
o  Conducting house-to-house enquires where required and completing relevant actions
·  Provide care for victims and witnesses
o  Ensure that the necessary care for victims and witnesses is provided in an ethical and empathic manner and in accordance with the legislation, policies and procedures.
·  Provide crime prevention advice for victims and witnesses
o  Provide appropriate crime prevention advice to victims and witnesses and signpost where appropriate.
·  Obtain and secure evidence and exhibits maintaining their integrity, continuity and preventing contamination
·  Complete prosecution procedures in accordance with codes of practice and relevant legislation
·  Prepare and submit case materials/files, working with CPS or other relevant agencies/organisations to progress the case.
·  Present evidence in court and at other hearings.
·  Research and maintain up-to-date knowledge of current enquires, attending and contributing to briefings
·  Utilise all appropriate ICT systems to research, produce and submit statements, reports and intelligence logs.
·  Use information/intelligence to support the achievement of community safety and crime reduction objectives. Ensure that intelligence is used ethically and in accordance with the relevant legislation, policy, protocols and codes of practice.
SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE
Knowledge & Experience
This section should detail the requirement of previous experiences and knowledge gained from academic qualifications if appropriate, e.g. significant experience of administrative duties, degree level educated.
Essential: / ·  Ability to write clear, concise and accurate reports
·  Working knowledge of confidentiality and data protection issues
·  Be willing to successfully undertake any training requirements in respect of the role, which will include:
o  West Midlands Police IT Systems training
o  Investigation module
·  Experience of working effectively in a team
Desirable: / ·  Investigation and evidence gathering experience
·  Previous experience in criminal law and criminal justice system
·  Working knowledge of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act
·  Knowledge of police policy and procedures in relation to the role
·  Experience of dealing with conflict
·  Experience of working in a multi-agency environment, working with partner agencies

Desirable:
Hours of Work and Flexibility: / ·  The role may include shift working, late shifts and weekend working for which an additional shift allowance may be applicable.
·  Post holder may be required to work outside these hours from time to time including Bank holidays and be required to work at short notice, again taking into account individual circumstances
·  This role may require the post holder to perform duties on a force wide basis
