Course Description:
This course was designed to present best practices of Interactive Metronome intervention with patients demonstrating aphasia and apraxia. By combining IM with traditional speech therapy, the speaker has been able to maximize treatment and recovery time. The use of IM in this manner has allowed the patient’s to become more engaged and interactive during rote speech tasks involved in remediation of verbal expression, verbal fluency, and verbal organization deficits resulting from aphasia and apraxia of speech.
*Contact hours are offered pending successful completion of a written exam at the end of the course.

This webinar welcomes SLP/SLPAs who have completed the Interactive Metronome Certification course.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Demonstrate knowledge regarding current treatment approaches for apraxia and aphasia.
2. Integrate timing & rhythm (IM) into speech therapy treatment to enhance speech/language and cognitive outcomes.
*Note: This course covers information that pertains to licensed therapists and therapy assistants. SLPA, COTA and PTA professionals must practice IM under the supervision of a licensed SLP, OT or PT.
Instructor
Dara Coburn,MS, CCC-SLPreceived her undergraduate and masters degree from the University of Central Arkansas and holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence issued by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Dara is the National Program Champion for Interactive Metronome within the HealthSouth Corporation. She also serves as Interactive Metronome’s Clinical Support contact person for Life Care Centers of America. With expertise and experience in the field of neurological disorders, Dara was able to accept this new treatment tool and has been able to successfully integrate it into her practice by modifying it to individually meet her patient's needs.
