APUSH Hall of Fame
This project is the final assignment for AP US History. Your goal is to nominate, present, and get your person selected by three-fourths of the class to be inducted into the APUSH Hall of Fame. Think of yourself as a lawyer presenting a case to the class as to why your person deserves to be inducted. If your person is selected and you have done your research, then you will earn an “A” for the assignment. It is also possible to get an “A” even if you person isn’t inducted if you meet the following requirements:
Requirements:
· You are to design a powerpoint presentation (or other multimedia presentation) on the person you feel has had a major impact on the course of United States History.
· Your presentation should not last longer than 10 minutes, but must last at least a minimum of 5 minutes.
· Minimum of 15 slides. Include proper graphics, animations, video, music, etc.
· You may not choose a person that someone else in the class has selected.
· All nominees must be US citizens. Native Americans and residents of the colonial era (pre-American Revolution) are also eligible.
· Cannot be a previous inductee:
o 2007-2008: Thomas Jefferson, Robert E. Lee, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, and Bob Dylan
o 2008-2009: Upton Sinclair and Helen Keller
· Research your historical figure and be able to present a logical argument as to how the person you have selected made an extremely significant contribution to the course of US History.
· Your presentation should demonstrate that you understand the depth and breadth of your nominee’s contributions to US History.
· You are to provide an 8” x 10” photograph or likeness of your person in a frame.
· The framed picture should have a brief (50-100 words) summarization of the person’s accomplishments. Your name should be included at the end of the summarization.
· Must have at least 5 varying sources (books, reliable historical websites—not wikipedia, etc.). Encyclopedias (even online ones) do NOT count as a source. Make sure to include a work cited page in proper MLA format in your presentation. Lack of work cited will result in a ZERO for the project.
Election Procedure:
· At the conclusion of the last presentation, Miss Knight will pass out printed ballots.
· All nominees will be listed on the ballot in alphabetical order.
· Each student in the class may cast their votes on no more than 15 of the nominated people on the ballot. A student may vote for fewer than 15 of the choices.
· No one can vote for their own candidate.
· A nominee that receives 75% of the votes cast will be placed in the new APUSH Hall of Fame.
· If selected, your framed picture of the candidate will be hung in the room for future students to admire.
