Needs Assessment Data Summary to Justify Relevancy

of Current Vision and Mission Statement
The Frankfort Education Foundation is dedicated to serving the students and teachers of the Community Schools of Frankfort, Indiana by providing grants and scholarships. Frankfort is a rural community with approximately 6,000 students enrolled in its primary and secondary schools (encompassing elementary, middle school, and high school). Of those 6,000 students, 80% are on free and reduced lunch. Research has shown that income level is a strong indicator of college enrollment directly after high school graduation. According to the National Student Clearinghouse, a nonprofit student data reporting organization, high-poverty schools, defined as “schools where at least 75% of students qualify for discounted lunch programs,” had an average college enrollment rate of 51% in the fall following graduation in 2015, in contrast to a 76% college enrollment rate for low-poverty schools, defined as “schools where less than 25% of students qualify for discounted lunch programs” (nscresearchcenter.org). Furthermore, the National Student Clearinghouse research shows that the percentage of minority students at schools was also a strong indicator of college enrollment. For high minority schools, the immediate college enrollment was 57% in 2015, in contrast to schools with a low enrollment of minorities being 68% (nscresearchcenter.org). The Community Schools of Frankfort has an average of 50% of students being of Hispanic ethnicity. Taking into account the high-poverty and high-minority enrollments in the Community Schools of Frankfort, there is a clear need for support of the students and teachers if we are to continue to work towards our vision of “a community without barriers to educational opportunities”.
