Incumbent serves as Grant Writer for the Mayor, responsible for writing grants to governmental agencies, private foundations, and corporations to raise funds for the City of Noblesville’s services and programs as determined by the Mayor.

DUTIES:

Conducts prospect research on potential government, foundation, and individual grantors using internet sites and other research resources. Selects and/or recommends best grant / project and appropriate solicitation amounts for each prospect.Continually expands portfolio of foundation prospects suitable for solicitation.

Writes, edits, and proofreads proposals in accordance with grantor standards and requirements.

Develops and writes grants to assist in meeting and fulfilling City needs. Meets with Department Directors / City leaders as needed to remain informed of individual department and overall City needs.Attends various City and community meetings and conducts interviews to obtain and verify information.

Maintain and track grant requests and reporting requirements. Maintains database and files regarding information about grantors, including contact information, requests for funding, reporting requirements, deadlines, and whether the requests are funded or not funded.

Corresponds with prospects and grantors, including following up to check on status of proposals and reporting back to them on their program investments.Coordinates on-site visits with prospects / grantors as needed.

Responds to questions concerning grant compliance. Meets with City personnel and funding source agencies as needed to review financial reports, verifies figures and information for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with grant regulations.

Prepares accurate and timely progress reports. Regularly informs supervisor of project status and any deviation from established timeline or goals.

Corresponds with Public Affairs Manager to secure current press information.

Attends Board of Works and Council meetings and other special events and meetings as required by the Mayor.

Periodically attends training seminars as needed.

Performs related duties as assigned.

I. JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Associate Degree in related area, and a minimum of one year of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Thorough knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling and punctuation and ability to assimilate information from various sources and prepare clear, persuasive communication for oral and written presentation.

Thorough knowledge of and ability to makepractical application of City services and standard principles of municipal government administration.

Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing in a courteous, tactful manner with coworkers, Mayor, City officials and other personnel, news media and, the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.

Thorough knowledge of and ability to make practical application of word processing and desktop- publishing software and ability to properly operate standard office equipment, including computer and printer and possess above average typing skills.

Ability to plan and lay out assigned work projects, and work alone and with others in a team

environment with minimum supervision, often under time pressure.

Ability to work on several tasks at the same time and complete assignments effectively amidst frequent distractions and interruptions.

Ability to work extended and/or evening hours, on occasion work weekend hours, and occasionally travel out of town for meetings/seminars, sometimes overnight.

Possession of a valid Indianadriver's license and a demonstrated safe driving record, and must remain insurable through the City’s liability insurance carrier (Refer to the Civilian Personnel Policy for additional information).

II. DIFFICULTY OF WORK:

Incumbent interprets and applies a variety of rules, regulations, policies and procedures, which may be in conflict with one another, in assisting with and monitoring proper administration of various grant programs.

III. RESPONSIBILITY:

The majority of incumbent's work is guided by general accounting procedures and established regulations and guidelines of various granting agencies. Incumbent discusses unusual situations with supervisor as needed. Work is reviewed for soundness of judgment, accuracy, and compliance with established policies and procedures.

IV. PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:

Incumbent requires regular contact with co-workers, other government officials, grant funding agencies, neighborhood associations, and members of the general public for the purposes of exchanging information, providing instruction and technical assistance to other departments, exploring opportunities for grant monies for City services, and resolving discrepancies.

Incumbent reports directly to the Mayor.

V. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Incumbent performs a majority of duties in a standard office environment involving walking/standing for long periods, sitting and walking at will, and hearing sounds/communication. Incumbent may work extended and/or evening hours, on occasion works weekend hours, and occasionally travels out of town for meetings/seminars, sometimes overnight.
