Provide a brief description of the project and its activities:
The UVSO service campus is a project designed to stabilize a troubled block in the South Orange and Sandford Avenue commercial district in Vailsburg. UVSO has previously built or restored eight properties in and around the service campus that anchor the district. These include an office building, a senior citizen center, an infant toddler center, two preschools, two mixed use retail and apartment buldings, and three small apartment buildings. Earlier NRTC funding helped to develop the office building and two mixed use buildings. The current project at the service campus is the construction of a new, 10,000 square foot structure to house an infant-toddler center that the organization plans to simultaneously upgrade to an Early Head Start program. The existing infant-toddler center, also on the corridor, will be converted to 2 preschool classrooms as an aspect of the project.

What outcomes are anticipated from completingthe project and its activities?
Anticipated outcomes include 50 additional preschool spaces, more and better infant-toddler preschool services for local children and working families, another new structure that contributes to the perception and reality of positive growth and development in the community, and improved shopping, service, and living conditions along South Orange and Sandford Avenues and throughout the Vailsburg neighborhood. UVSO's goal is to create a prototype for the redevelopment of urban commercial districts through this project.
