OUR LADY OF REFUGE –FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIMEFEBRUARY4TH, 2018
FIRST READING
Job 7:1-4, 6-7
I am filled with restlessness until the dawn.
SECOND READING
1 Corinthians 9:16-19, 22-23
Woe to me if I do not preach the Gospel.
GOSPEL READING
Mark 1:29-39
Jesus cured many who were sick with various diseases.
**********************************
Our readings today progress from despair to hope. Job has lost his children, his livelihood, and his health. “I shall not see happiness again,” he mourns in his lament to God. In the Gospel, “the whole town” came to Jesus, bringing those with hope. Undoubtedly, we can picture ourselves in both situations. When we are in despair, let us remind ourselves of the healing grace of Jesus.

What is ARISE?
ARISE is a program from Renew International providing a parish spiritual renewal and evangelization process. The goal is to help people become better hearers and doers of the Word of God by encouraging and supporting the formation of small communities as sharing groups where individuals seek to grow in faith and in their relationship with God and one another. The ARISE process invites us to make a six week journey each Fall and Spring for a total of five seasons. We will explore key scriptural themes and connect them with living out our Catholic Faith. Participants will meet weekly in a faith sharing group of 8-12 individuals either in homes or at the parish. There will be a trained facilitator for each group. Each session lasts approximately 90 minutes. Please take and fill out a card from the back of the church and give to the usher or leave in rectory office.
Schedule of ARISE
Come and join us! ARISE together in Christ Season 4 “New Heart, New Spirit” will take place this Lent. We encourage all parishioners to sign up for this season and be part of the small faith sharing communities in Our Lady of Refuge parish. Even if you did not participate in previous seasons of ARISE, we invite you to participate during this Lenten season.

Interfaith Planning Meeting
All are invited to join Jewish and Muslim neighbors for our planning meeting of our Interfaith Coalition of Brooklyn on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 7:30. We will meet in the rectory dining room of Our Lady of Refuge. We need everyone's participation to decide on events and activities for the coming months. We live in times of conflict and division. Pope Francis has called on all Catholics to reach across the boundaries that divide our communities and to work together in a spirit of solidarity. The Interfaith Coalition of Brooklyn is our parish community's way of responding to that call, so come on the evening of Feb. 13 at 7:30. Join your neighbors as we gather in the rectory dining room.
