Senior College Application Workshop for Parents-Tuesday, Sept 19@ 6:30pin the Commons

This will be hosted by the guidance counselors to talk about the college application process. Counselors will also be going into the English classrooms during that week, to share important information for applying to 2 and4 year colleges.

Financial Aid Information Night - Tuesday, Sept, 26@ 6:30pin the Commons.

Learn about financial aid available for college. This overview will include information on Federal Aid (FAFSA), CA state aid (CA Grants), college based scholarships and more. This event istargeted for BOTH students and their parents. The presenter will be from a local private college.

SRVUSD College Fair Oct. 25 @ 6:30-8:30p at Monte Vista. Chat with college representatives and learn more about college options. Military representatives will be available as well.

Research your college options. Note application deadlines and requirements, organize your acquired information, manage your time! Seek out answers to your questions…we are here to help!

Be prepared with questions about the college application process as your counselors will be coming into your English classrooms to discuss the college application process the week of Sept. 18.

JUNIORS

The PSAT will be administered atSRVHSon Sat., October 14th and registration is OPEN. Access the registration link from the SRVHS website home page. This test is targeted for juniors, but open to sophomores and freshmen as well.

College Admissions Test Prep and Parent Education Nights: The SRVHS Academic Boosters organization offers many test prep and application workshops.View the detailsandREGISTER on the SRVHS websiteby clicking on the yellow"Booster Groups" button, then clicking on "Academic Boosters".

Introduction to Testing Seminar: 9/19, 9/26 and 10/3 - 3 part series for students comparing and contrasting the SAT and ACT. Practice all sections of both tests and learn strategies for success and analyzing questions. Sign up at SRVHS home page: Booster Groups Button: Academic Boosters.

ALL STUDENTS

College/Vocational Visits to SRVHS. We are scheduling visits daily and all are posted on the COLLEGES page of the student’s’ Naviance portal under “college visits”.Upcoming visits include: U.S. Marines, U of Massachusetts; U of Kansas; U of Oregon; U of Nevada Reno; U of South Carolina; Miami U Oxford; Rider U; Rice U; The American U of Paris; U of Puget Sound; Indiana U and many more!

Regional College Visits. Many colleges cannot visit every high school, so often hold regional visits in a single Bay Area location (i.e. a hotel). If there is a particular college you wish to learn about, be sure to search the college’s website for regional events. We post what we learn about on school loop but there are many other colleges who do not notify us. See college websites for details on their events!

Learn about higher education in the UK and how to apply at this 9/16 event in SF from 1-4 p.m.! Represented Universities include Bristol, Durham, Newcastle, Southampton, Warwick and York). Location: San Francisco on Saturday, September 16that the Marriott Marquis downtown. This event is for students, parents and counselors to learn more about studying in the UK, creating a strong application, and to hear from each of our universities. Event details on school loop.

Interested in a Military Service Academy and the Nomination Process? The Office of Congressman Mark DeSaulnier is hosting a Service Academy Night at DVC in Pleasant Hill on Thurs., Sept. 28 @6-8 p.m.! This is an educational opportunityfor students interested in attending a military academy in exchange for a minimum 5-year military service commitment at graduation. Accepted students receive a 4-year education, room and board, medical/dental coverage and a stipend. Theinformation nights are being held at DVC and in Richmond. Service academy reps will provide a presentation and Congressional staff will provide a briefing on the nomination process. ·Visual and Performing Arts Fair at the San Francisco Conference Center, 11/1, 7-9pm.

Interested in a career in the medical field? Consider participating in the John Muir sponsored HOSA student volunteer organization! First meeting is 9/21! HOSA is an international, student led organization that provides students an opportunity to gain information and experience in the healthcare field by learning from health professionals who come to speak at the meetings. Job Board & Work Permits!Stop by the center to check out our job board. We are receiving new postings each day. Work permit applications are available in the C/Career Center on the front desk. We process them M, T, W and Th and completed permits may be picked up during office hours. On Friday, they may be picked up in Attendance. Permit applications dropped off on Thursday after lunch, will be ready on Monday.
