About ZIFF:
The Zanzibar International Film Festival is one of the largest multi-disciplinary arts and cultural festival in Africa dedicated to films, music and different form of art. Each year ZIFF exhibits films from Africa, Middle East, Europe, Latin America, USA and Asia. The 21th Edition of ZIFF will take place from 7th -15th July, 2018 in Stone town, Zanzibar. About The theme of the Festival is: Speak Up and Be Heard – Sema na usikike
THE COMPETITION: Eligibility
1. The Zanzibar International Film Festival is currently accepting applications from filmmakers from around the world according to different categories of competition.
2. The priority is given to films from Africa and by Africans including African Diaspora.
3. The category INTERNATIONAL will award film from international movie panorama that mainly deals about Africa.
4. ZIFF is also the festival of the Dhow Countries so it opens to films from the region - South East Asia, the Arabian Peninsula, The Persian Gulf, Iran, Pakistan, and the Indian Ocean Islands. These films have their category and prizes in the competition
5. Films in competition must be directed or produced from 2016. Work in Progress can be submitted but must be finished by May 2018.
6. ZIFF also reserves the right to accept any films with a specific interest to the festival. We encourage filmmakers to submit works in any genre, features, documentaries, shorts, animation, TV series and music videos.
7. Deadline for submission is 15th March 2018.

(Countries of the Indian Ocean Rim, the Arab Peninsula and Indian Ocean Islands, including Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan)

(from all over the world with particular attention to African issues and realities)

· EAST AFRICAN FILMS
· SWAHILI FILMS AWARD
· EAST AFRICAN MUSIC VIDEO
· FILM SCHOOL
ZIFF competition categories include: Feature Fiction, Documentary, Short/Animation, TV/WEB Series and Music Video

In acknowledgement of the role that films play in contemporary society, festivals bestow film awards as a measure of the value that the industry accords festivals, and offers filmmakers a tribute to their creativity, innovation and status. The official prize list of ZIFF is as follows:

1. Chairperson’s or Bibi Kidude Award (from ZIFF Board)
2. ZIFF Lifetime Achievement Award. (From ZIFF Board)
3. Sembene Ousmane Prize: GIZ and ZIFF will award the SEMBENE OUSMANE PRIZE FOR DEVELOPMENT FILMS for the 3 best short films made by an African or an African in the Diaspora.
· Swahili Film Awards: Popular culture films in Kiswahili
4. Emerson of Zanzibar Prize Films: Films of all genres about Zanzibar made by or made in Zanzibar.
5. SIGNIS Awards (Best African Film and Best East African Talent Award) The SIGNIS Jury will present its Award to a film that is deemed to exemplify universal and spiritual values that enhance human dignity, justice and tolerance through the art of cinematic expression.
6. EAFF Award (European African Film Festival)
7. ADIAHA AWARD (BEST DOCUMENTARY by an AFRICAN Female Filmmaker)

Submission Procedures:
· All submission must be done through ZIFF platform on www.festhome.com
(link can be found on the website of the festival)
· A signed and fully completed application submitted by e-mail at
· To be eligible for programming, the entire application MUST be completed and signed.
· The submission deadline is 15th March 2018.
· Freight costs of any film will be borne by the producer.
· Selection results will be available from May 15, 2018 on our Website: www.ziff.or.tz
· Any film at ZIFF may have five (5) public screenings at the most, including one press viewing. However, further screenings could be organized if the producer so agrees.
· No DVDs will be returned. They will be kept at ZIFF for archival purposes.
· ZIFF is committed to preserve the copy of film from any act of piracy and illicit business.
