RE: PROVINCIAL RANKINGS FOR ALBERTA HIGH SCHOOLS

PAGE(s): 2

Here are the Weekly Top-10 Rankings for all four Tier’s of high school football in Alberta for the 2012 season. These rankings will come out every Sunday (except for Labor Day kickoff) from now up until Nov. 4.

The teams are slotted into Tiers based on their estimated school size, which may change once official counts are known at the end of September. Please note that games vs. US opponents, or tournaments are not taken into consideration for ranking or listed in the overall record of the schools due to too many variables and inconsistent rules for those games.

Should you have any questions about the rankings or listed teams please contact Football Alberta at (780)427-8108 or check out our website at www.footballalberta.ab.ca.

GAME OF THE WEEK:

Tier I

#2 Notre Dame Pride at #5 Henry Wise Wood Warriors

Friday, Sept. 28, 6:00 p.m., Encana Field at Shouldice Park (Calgary)

Another week another beauty in the Calgary area. Fresh off their hard fought victory over the tough St. Francis Browns, #5 Henry Wise Wood gets to poke at another hornets nest with the #2 ranked Notre Dame Pride next on the menu. The Pride have been beacon of excellence over the past decade and in two games have outscored their opponents 88-0 while the Warriors are the most consistent top 10 team in Calgary. It’s still relatively early on in the season but both teams should be at full running capacity this Friday making this a must watch game.

Tier II

#4 Foothills Falcons at #5 Holy Trinity Academy Knights

Friday, Sept. 28, 7:30 p.m., Holy Trinity Academy Field (Okotoks)

The Battle of Okotoks is upon us. We used to have to wait until Provincials for this game to possibly occur but now with both Tier II powerhouses in the same league it’s a red letter day Okotoks every year. The town of 25,000 may be dwarfed by the big cities but nowhere else is there a community this size in the province where you find two excellent teams of this caliber just a few blocks apart. The Knights started the year ranked #1 but have fallen to #5 with two tough losses in the past two weeks while the Falcons have soared up the charts with impressive victories each week until last weeks loss to Tier I Jasper Place. Either way these two teams are loaded for bear and should put on a fireworks show this week. Friday night lights indeed!
