Intended Course Learning Outcomes/Course Goals (Core Competencies):
The general purpose of this course is so that students will explore a body of scientific evidence (SCIENTIFIC REASONING) that informs modern discussion of several broad hypothetical constructs such as motivation, emotion, personality and mental disorders. The study of basic issues inherent in psychotherapies (CRITICAL THINKING) presupposes broken or damaged personalities, and therefore professional strategies that have been developed to mend that damage. On the other hand, interpersonal attraction, attitude formation and change characterize everyday, ordinary life and, as such, modern scientific date included in this course has much to teach students about their own social perception and cognition. (PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT)
