Introduction

The 8th Annual Seminar on Science and Technology (S&T) 2009 is jointly organized by School of Science and Technology, Universiti Malaysia Sabahand Science and Technology Unit, Sabah State Government. This seminar marks the continuation of the 7th Seminar S&T held in 2008, which had successfully gathered many presenters. S&T provides an avenue for the dissemination, sharing and discussion of completed research works and on-going research activities. We hope to highlight research output, on-going research works and future direction of research activities of young and new lecturers and academicians within the university and throughout Sabah on science and technology related fields. In conjunction with the theme of the seminar ‘Science and Technology Advancement Towards 1UMS’ we hope to help establish and enhance multi-disciplinary collaboration research for advancing research and development.

S&T 2009 aims to continue the tradition of active participation from respective new and young academicians. The organizer believes this year would see an exciting opportunity to experience more diverse course among academic staff.

Objectives

  • To provide opportunities for newly appointed senior and young lecturers to interact, network and exchange ideas.
  • To highlight current completed research and on-going research activities within the University in Science and Technology related fields.
  • To establish and strengthen multi-disciplinary collaboration for advancing research and development.
  • To establish a close collaboration and relationship between Universiti Malaysia Sabah and Science and Technology Unit of Sabah State Government.

Niche Areas of Research

Authors are invited to submit original manuscripts that demonstrate current research in all areas of science and technology. Areas of interest include but not limited to:

  • Mathematics and statistical applications
  • Natural products and drug discovery
  • Bio-resource technology

All newly appointed lecturers, researches and Postgraduate students from science and technology related schools and institutes are welcome to participate in the seminar.
