Improving access in new facilities

Kathleen Syme Library and Community Centre was designed in line the Dementia Enabling Environment Guidelines to improve usability for our community.

Welcoming new families to Melbourne

Our New Arrivals to Melbourne program has welcomed 100 parents since being established in October 2014.

Safety

Goal: Melbourne is a place where people of all ages and abilities feel physically and emotionally safe, at home, at work and in the community

Accessibility at the core of our designs

100 per cent of new facilities built by City of Melbourne are compliant with Disability Discrimination Act standards.

Anti-bullying education programs

Youth Advocates Against Family Violence education sessions delivered to 250 students.

Training to prevent family violence

Training delivered for 193 City of Melbourne staff to help identify and respond to family violence towards women, children, people with a disability and older people.

Connection

Goal: Melbourne is a place where there are strong connections between people of different ages, abilities and backgrounds where people feel welcome and that they belong

Streat smart training opportunities

We funded social enterprise Streat to provide youth hospitality training programs for 77 young people at risk of homelessness.

Celebrating seniors

Sponsored 2014 Victorian Seniors Festival and delivered a range of programs across recreation centres, libraries, neighbourhood centres and Town Hall.

Music – The intergenerational language

Delivered the intergenerational music program that saw 120 children and older people meet once a month to help improve connections through music.

Health and Wellbeing

Goal: Melbourne is a place where people have access to the information, programs, community facilities and quality open spaces

Activity for all abilities

16 programs designed for people with low physical activity were delivered through City of Melbourne managed recreation centres.

Encouraging creative kids

Ninety-three per cent of parents reported that participation in ArtPlay programs encouraged their child to express their own creative ideas.

Supporting culturally diverse community groups

30,000 meals were provided by our Community Meals subsidy program to 40 groups of people from culturally diverse backgrounds.

Life-Long Learning

Goal: Melbourne is a place where people can learn throughout their lives gaining knowledge, opportunities, independence and confidence

An appetite for learning at our libraries

More than 3,000 people attended 242 library sessions over the year covering topics from 3D printing, movie making, web design, digital DJing and more.

Positive parenting programs

Our parent education programs delivered by our family services team saw a 32 per cent increase in participants.

Having A Voice

Goal: Melbourne is a place where people are involved in civic decision-making and where all voices are recognised, heard and valued

Giving children a voice

We presented 20 events across our children’s centre to celebrate 2014 Children’s Week, reflecting the theme ‘The Right to Speak and be Heard’.

Enabling our youth to drive social change

Hosted Change it Up, a program that saw 40 young people pitch their ideas for social change in Melbourne.

Listening to and implementing feedback from seniors

540 healthy ageing program participants provided input into the planning for the delivery of our Healthy Ageing programs .
