The proposed amendments revised the following endorsement areas:
8VAC20-23-150. Early/primary education preK-3. Increased the coursework requirements in mathematics and science and provided an option for specified requirements and testing.
8VAC20-23-160. Elementary education preK-6. Increased the coursework requirements in mathematics and science and provided an option for specified requirements and testing.
8VAC20-23-170. Middle education 6-8. Increased the coursework requirements in mathematics.
8VAC20-23-330. Engineering. Established a new endorsement.
8VAC20-23-560. Special education – general curriculum K-6 (add-on endorsement); 8VAC20-23-570. Special education – general curriculum middle grades 6-8 (add-on endorsement); 8VAC20-23-580. Special education – general curriculum secondary grades 6-12 (add-on endorsement). Established new add-on endorsements.

8VAC20-23-170. Middle education 6-8. [Laboratory] Science[s]. Science concentration (must include courses in each of the following: biology, chemistry, physics, and Earth and space science; and a laboratory course is required in [each] of the four areas.
8VAC20-23-350. English as a second language preK-12. Second language acquisition: 3 semester hours and English as a second language assessment to include assessing comprehension and communication in English: 3 semester hours; Modern Foreign Languages 6 semester hours removed from requirements.

Personal health [and] safety, [and care of athletic injuries]: 3 semester hours; Human anatomy, physiology, exercise physiology and [biomechanics of human movement]: 9 semester hours; General health and physical education theory, including curriculum design and development in health and physical education: 3 semester hours; Instructional methods and skills for secondary physical education: 3 semester hours; Concepts of motor learning, instructional methods and skills for elementary physical education: 3 semester hours; Instruction methods for elementary and secondary school health methods course]: 3 semester hours; [Instructional methods and strategies for Adapted] physical education: 3 semester hours; Technology in health and physical education: 3 semester hours; [Principles of Human] Nutrition: 3 semester hours; and Assessment and evaluation in the content area: 3 semester hours.

Earned a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university and completed a major in Earth science, geology, or environmental science with a minimum of 32 semester hours in Earth sciences, including at least one course in each of the following: structural geology, petrology, paleontology, oceanography, meteorology, and astronomy/space science;
