6 Essential Nutrients- Group Project- You must save and share the project with me using Google
You will have 3 class periods to research and complete your project. Everyone should be ready to present to the class on the 4th day.
1-Groups will create an original project themed around a specific nutrient idea
2-The project is designed to inform the public (your classmates) about the nutrient.
3-Information should be specific and detailed and should include supporting details where needed to demonstrate a deeper understanding about your topic (Do Not include information that is unlikely to happen. For example: drinking too much water or eating too much Vitamin C)
4-Groups must be able to explain all information contained in their project, therefore do not include information you do not understand--- research, learn and explain your facts.
5-All information must be cited on your Planning Guide (notes taken while researching)
6-Use the scoring rubric to help guide you.
7-YOU ARE RESEARCHING NUTRIENTS/FOODS THAT WE EAT! (Example of what to not put in your project: Minerals can be found in rocks, dirt, and date back thousands of years. Reason not to include in your project is that you don’t eat these items for nutrition. This is a Home Skills project, not a science project)

- Be well-constructed and last 7-10 minutes. Pay attention to voice volume, lighting and distance from subject being filmed so it is easily seen.
- Engage the audience by being interesting and entertaining.
- Involve all group members equally (Everyone must share a role in the movie creation)
- You must have a source page that contains at least 5 sources- this can be in your movie or handed in to me.
- Google Slideor PreziPresentation: This along with oral presentation should last 5 minutes
- Be well constructed. Pay attention to sound, pictures, font style/color/size so it is easy to see on the smart board.
- You must have at least 11 slides (one can be a title slide and one should be sources cited.)
- Show an in-depth understanding of the topic selected.
- You can include a video clip that you make or find on youtube (no longer than 2 minutes)
- Font style/color/size should be easily seen on screen
- Include pictures, labels when necessary.
Step 3: Research your topic:
- This project is designed to help you learn and share information about a specific nutrient.
- Be careful where you look for information. Not everything you find on the internet is proven scientific information or even useful to maintaining health. You are looking for hard core facts that help people to lead healthier lives.
Therefore:

- Cite your sources- next to the information you collect on your planning sheet, cite the source you found the information from. You must use at least 5 different sources for information.
- Details Matter: Please note that this is a research project. That means you are to learn about your topic. The more information you can share with the class, the better the grade you will earn. Basic facts will give you a basic grade (75% or lower). Those students not equally participating in the research and completed project will earn less than a 75% and will be required to re-do the project by themselves.

- Examples of foods the nutrient is found in and why they are important (If you are talking about a food group like fruits, veggies, whole grains, dairy or protein, you may want to explain what other nutrients are found in them and how they help the body).
- Foods that provide GOOD SOURCES of your nutrient or are good examples of the food group (usually 3-4) and make sure to include pictures.
- Foods that should be avoided (This may or may not apply to your nutrient)
- Other interesting and related information to your topic.

Vitamins- main role in the body, 5 different vitamins along with food examples & what it does for the body (health benefits), soluble and insoluble
Minerals- main role in the body, 5 different minerals along with food examples & what it does for the body (health benefits)
Water- 5 things it does for the body, 8 EXCELLENT FOOD sources for water, not enough water?
