DRESS CODE

All student apparel should reflect modesty and sensibility as indicated in the Scriptures ( I Timothy 2:9). Extremes in dress and hairstyle will not be acceptable. The Administrator/ Principal has full discretionary control as to what is considered “modest” and acceptable and what is extreme.

1. Everyday wear

  1. Shirts – All students are required to wear a polo style shirt (modest-fitting, not too loose or too tight) with no advertising, writing or graphics on it, with the exception of trademark names. Polo shirts must be tucked in or the polo must have a finished/banded bottom. Polo can't go past hips. Phys. Ed. shirts may be T-shirts but must have sleeves, with no writing and/or graphics. Shirts must be long enough that the midriff is not exposed when standing with arms over head, when sitting, or when leaning over. No visible cleavage will be allowed at any time. “Hoodies” or sweatshirts are allowed only if a polo shirt is worn underneath. Hoodies or sweatshirts may have no pockets and may have no writing or graphics on them.
  2. Pants/trousers, skirts, shorts – Students shall wear loose fitting, modest navy, brown or khaki slacks, shorts, or jeans (jeans must have no holes and no patches and may not be “hipsters”). Jeans must not be worn on Chapel days. Sweatpants, athletic pants and cargo pants/shorts are not allowed. Girls’ skirts or jumpers must be knee length or below. Short skirts with leggings are not allowed. Shorts must also be knee length or below, including P. E. shorts. During the time period between November 1 and March 15 of each school year, shorts may be worn only for P.E. time. “Compression shorts” are required under regular shorts when participating in P. E. or for athletic practice or competitions. Neither pants, skirts nor shorts are to bear any writing or graphics.
  3. Shoes must be worn during all school activities. Acceptable shoes are: athletic, casual, or dress – no “flip-flops” allowed. Athletic shoes are required when students are on the gym floor in physical education classes or athletic practice.
  4. Hair must be neat and groomed; not over shirt collar, not over eyebrows,
not covering ears. No extreme hairstyles are allowed (as determined by the Administrator). No facial hair is allowed. The Administrator’s judgments on hair must be followed. Ball caps, hats, or scarves are not to be worn inside the school buildings unless special permission is granted by the Administrator/Principal.

2. Special occasion wear

  1. “Spirit” days, uniform shirts may be worn by athletes and Agape spirit T-shirts may be worn by others.
  2. Field Trips: Appropriate clothing for field trips will be announced prior to the trip.
  3. Chapel: Dress for “Chapel” days is recommended to be somewhat more formal.
  4. Special occasion dress (e.g. Graduation or other) will be identified as a “special dress code.”
  5. Swimwear and Related: For any school activity in which a student may get wet – All students must wear a dark colored T-shirt and dark colored knee-length shorts. Swimwear may be worn underneath, but swimsuits alone are unacceptable.
  6. Piercings: Allowed for females only and only earrings, and a maximum of two per ear.

3. Dress Code infractions and discipline

If a student’s clothing is extreme or in any way does not meet the guidelines above, he/she will be subject to disciplinary procedures. The Administrator/Principal will designate a female faculty member to speak to the female students and a male faculty member to speak to the male students privately if they are not following these guidelines. All disciplinary measures will be handled according to the disciplinary section, Level I, of the ACHS Handbook.
