Statement about Coppin Academy
Coppin Academy is a new charter high school in Baltimore City founded on the premise that all Academy students will further their education at professional institutions of higher learning upon graduation. The Academy opened in July 2005 and serves a population of 400 students in grades nine through twelve. Using the latest student achievement data, Academy staff, students and parents acknowledge current student strengths, identify student challenges, and work as a team to complete Personal Education Plans that guide each student in reaching individual educational goals. All students work to increase their knowledge and skills to perform on grade level and beyond.
Unique
Coppin Academy is unique--located in the heart of the Coppin State University’s campus. Academy students use the labs, physical education and technology resources that their older college role models use regularly. This exposure factors into our students’ desire to go to college. Different extra-curricular activities such as the Early College Program (formerly known as Dual Enrollment), debate, fine arts, chess and study abroad are also available. It is easy to see that Coppin Academy is totally different and absolutely unique.
Small
Coppin is small enough and cares enough to make sure that each student achieves and succeeds. Academy students learn early that college at the end of grade twelve is not a choice, it’s an expectation! Each student will earn the right to attend college by or before the end of the twelfth grade year.
All Applications are due February 6, 2014, in order to be eligible for the Lottery.
