SMALL RURAL COMMUNITIES

ROUND 23, 2013 (open1 February 2013 – close5pm, 2 April 2013)

This grant program will offer up to $400,000 in grants to benefit small rural and remote Australian communities. Grants will be made in amounts up to $5,000. This collaborative approach is designed to: make better, targeted use of funds improving access for rural & regional communities; provide a simple application process; and, enhance efficiency and effectiveness for philanthropic trusts and foundations who wish to support small communities.

What can be funded?

  • Not-for-profit community based organisations can apply for funds to support projects and activities thatoffer clear public benefit for communities in small rural and remote locations in Australia, contributing to their social and community welfare, economic, environmental, health, education or cultural development or recovery from a recent Natural Disaster (within the last six months)
  • Applications from communities with apopulation of10,000 or less will receive priority
  • To be eligible,projects must be for a charitable purpose (address a need in the community). The majority of funds are unrestricted but, some grants may be restricted to specific geographic locations
  • Organisations should have an ABN or Incorporation Certificate
  • Organisations demonstrating community partnerships will be preferred to multiple applications from one community
  • Projects being undertaken from June 2013 to June 2014(projects will not beretrospectively funded)

What can not be funded?

  • Operational and administration costs, travel and accommodation will not be funded
  • Previous FRRR grant recipients who have not completed final report requirements are noteligible
  • Only one project per organisation will be funded (please submit only one application per organisation)
  • The encouragement or advancement of sport, recreation and social activities is not considered a charitable activity by the Australian Taxation Office. Applications from sporting organisations need to clearly demonstrate a benefit to the wider community.

What information should be provided?

  • Please use the Round 23Application Form and keep responses to the space provided
  • You MUST attach an up to date organisational financial statement
  • You MUST attach a copy of your ABN or Incorporation Certificate
  • Quotes and letters of support strengthen your application, as does the inclusion of in kind support and other sources of funding in your project budget. We highly recommend that you include this with your application
  • If application is regarding property owned by a third party a letter of consent/support should be attached
    (eg: halls owned by councils)
  • All supporting material MUST be submitted with the application
  • Applications MUST be signed by the head of the organisation or application will not be considered
