Dear Student,
Thank you for your interest in the John Howard Adkins Memorial Scholarship. In order to be eligible for this need-based scholarship, you must:
- Be graduating from high school in Spring 2017.
- Have averaged a minimum gpa of 3.5 during 9th – 12th grades.
- Be continuingyour education in the academic year following high school graduation at a four year accredited university/college.
- Be a female planning a career in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) with a STEM major selected at the institution of choice.
All of the information requested on the application form is also required for eligibility. Academic achievement, personal accomplishments, financial need and response to the personal statement/essay question are all important factors in our choice of a scholarship recipient, but none of these factors alone can either guarantee or disqualify an applicant.
Scholarship Recipient Instructions (keep for your records)
Money will be awarded near the beginning of the 1st semester of the 1st year in college. If selected
as a recipient of this scholarship, you will need to provide the following information to the scholarship administrators to receive your award funds. Please include the following with your application.
- Your name and student ID for the college where the funds are to go.
- University Name, Financial Aid Office contact’s Name and the address where the award money will be sent.
Scholarship recipient/s will be awarded a $1000 scholarship which may only be used for tuition, required class books, and/or approved education fees.
Please note: All scholarship funds will be sent directly to the recipient’s college account. No scholarship funds will be given directly to the student. Family members/relatives of John Howard Adkins are NOT eligible for this scholarship.

Part II – Applicant Essay

3)How are you preparing yourself for the challenges you anticipate in college?
I understand that if any application information I provide, or is provided on my behalf, is false, misleading or incomplete, I will not be eligible for any scholarship award, and any scholarship awarded to me will be revoked.
I also understand that if my circumstances change so that I no longer meet the criteria for this award, I must immediately notify the John Howard Adkins Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Scholarships awarded through this application process may not be renewable. The award is not an entitlement and is based on availability of funds.
If I accept a scholarship award, I agree to respond in a timely manner to requests for additional information that may include a personal interview, personal letter of acknowledgement and thanks to the fund donors.
