GODALGAS - AWARDS
· There will be one Jury Prize of $400 for the work judged best in exhibition (in any media), as selected by the judges, and
· a “Peoples Choice” award of $200, which will be awarded on the basis of voting by exhibition attendees during the course of the exhibition.
Jury Prize
Awarded to: Dzidra Mitchell, Radu raksti – Lineage
Judges comments: “The judges deliberated and had difficulty deciding between two excellent works, and after discussion decided to award First Prize to Lineage. The painter approached the subject sensitively and thoughtfully. The interpretation of the landscape creates a fine balance between the abstract forms and the inventive use of the linear motif. The painting communicates atmosphere – it is quiet and compelling”.
Highly commended: Jānis Supe, Dienas vidus Venēcijā – Mid-day in Venice
Judges comments: “The judges would like to highly commend Mid-day in Venice. This unusual composition is impressive, and the precise tonal values are handled confidently. The artist has successfully exploited the whole range of tones and lines and has achieved a subtle and suggestive image”.
Commended: Two other paintings deserving commendation are Summer Landscape (No. 25 by Aina Nicmanis) and Valley Road, Katoomba (No. 30 by Egīls Rasmanis).
