Advanced Chemistry
Chapter 7[Part 1] – Study Guide
Test Date: ______
Chapter 7 – Section 7.1only
- Ions (see packet p.1-2)
- Be able to differentiate between cations and anions
- Be able to determine the number of protons & electrons in an ion
- Ionic compounds (see packet p.3-13)
- Be able to name ionic compounds when given a formula (this includes monatomic, polyatomics, and transition metal cations)
- Know when to use the stock system (roman numerals) and how to determine the roman numeral of a transition metal
- What is an ionic compound? What is it composed of?
- How do you recognized an ionic compound when given a compound name or formula
- What are monatomic ions
- What is a polyatomic ion?
- Covalent (aka: molecular) Compounds (see packet p.14-18)
- Memorize the 10 prefixs (mono, di, tri, etc.)
- Be able to name covalent compound using prefixes and write covalent chemical formulas
- Acids (see packet p.21-25)
- Be able to write formulas by determining the anion of the acids; then have enough Hydrogens to balance the negative charge of the anion.
- Be able to name acids using the 3 naming rules
- You must be able to determine what is an ionic compound vs. covalent compound vs. acid
