Job Title: Volunteer Pathway Co-ordinator Reports to: Children’s Manager

Purpose : To manage the pathway, from initial interest to introduction on project, to ensure the successful recruitment of volunteers to support SoLO’s core purpose.

Role and Context / Need to do / Need to know
Key accountabilities
Day to Day
  1. Recruit volunteers within SoLO’s guidelines ensuring the screening procedures are adhered to and appropriate reference checking is undertaken.
  2. Ensure that all volunteers are kept informed of general progress of the wider organisation.
  3. Maintain accurate confidential records relating to volunteers within the requirements of the Data Protection Act. Maintain an effective recording and monitoring system of volunteer activities.
  4. Explain the recording system for claiming expenses to volunteers and the importance of accurately maintaining records.
Planning
  1. Prepare regular reports for the Trustee Board, as requested by Chief Executive.
Strategy
  1. Represent the organisation at a borough wide level to support the continued flow of volunteers within the organisation, reflecting SoLO’s good practice approach to the maintenance of volunteering.
People
  1. Identify initial training needs and establish an on-going training programme for all new volunteers via the respective project leader.
  2. To ensure that all of the staff in SoLO are engaged in the positive support of volunteers within all aspects of our work.
  3. To look for ways to support people with learning disabilities into volunteering.
  4. To support the Disability Awareness Training.

  • Authority to recruit volunteers and terminate their appointment

  • Understanding of the needs of people with learning disabilities, their parents and carers
  • Understanding of how voluntary and statutory agencies operate
  • Experience of working with volunteers

  • Degree level education
