2015 ALTAR FLOWER CALENDAR SIGN UP
The 2015 Altar Flower Calendar is now available. It is located next to the Ask Me Desk in Lobby Court. Each Sunday our altar or chancel is enhanced by a lovely floral arrangement provided by our members in honor or memory of loved ones or in celebration of a birthday, anniversary, or special occasion. If you would like to participate, please choose a date on the calendar and provide your name and phone number. You will be contacted a few weeks before that date about the flower arrangement and bulletin information. Call Virginia Brant at 663-3866 if you have any questions. Thank you to all of you who have provided flowers in 2014. It is greatly appreciated!
ALL CHURCH CAROLING
All Church Caroling will be December 21 at 2:00pm.We will be caroling to 24 folks who are home bound or in care centers. Please sign-up at the Ask Me Desk if you can participate in this very special mission. Sharing Christmas Carols with those who are home bound is one of the greatest gifts you can give to another, so please mark your calendar and plan to attend. We will take plates of cookies to those we sing to, so if you would make some cookies that would be wonderful.
UPDATE YOUR INFORMATION
Outdated software has created issues with the current membership data system for the church. The staff is working to rectify this problem but we'd like your help. Please take time today to fill out a new household record sheet on one of the many clipboards in the sanctuary.
OPPORTUNITIES TO GIVE THIS CHRISTMAS SEASON
More Than 60 Loveland-area Families Need Your Help This Christmas!
This year, FUMC (in partnership with House of Neighborly Service and PHILO) will sponsor about 60 needy families who will receive gifts and/or a Christmas Food Basket. In recent years, Loveland has seen a rise in the number of families who will go without meals at Christmas time unless they receive help from the community.
Look for the sign-up sheets at the Ask Me Desk. Please consider "chipping in" for these families ... there are many ways in which you can help:
- FUMC includes a grocery gift card with each food basket. Please consider designating a special offering for the "Christmas Food Baskets" so that we can include a grocery card for everyone. Our goal is to collect $3,000 for these gift cards.
- Finally, we need a contingent of "Elves" to help us deliver Christmas Food Baskets and Angel Tree gifts to families on Saturday morning, December 20 from 8:30am - 12:00pm. Please sign-up at the Ask Me Desk or call Bob Monroe at 685-7889 to volunteer.
Thank you for helping these needy families (and neighbors) and continuing this FUMC Christmas tradition!
END OF YEAR FINANCES
The Finance Committee would like to thank church members and friends for their generous giving during 2014. Your gifts have done wonderful things for our church, our community and our mission outreach around the world. If you have some “left-over” money it can still be used but must be in the church office by 12:00pm, December 30 if you wish to have it count for your personal 2014 tax statements. Please write on the memo line of your check how you wish it to be credited. Here are some suggestions for your year-end gift giving: The church only needs$2,000 to finish paying off the building mortgage; we need a few thousand dollars more to purchase a new carpet for the sanctuary; our income for the year was down and our expenses were up, so any help with our $30,000 deficit would be welcome; and any and all of our mission projects for the Advent and Christmas season could always use more help. God has been good to us in many ways and we are all thankful that we can share his blessings with those who are not as fortunate as we are.
ENGLISH MAKES A DIFFERENCE
Be a part of creating an atmosphere conducive to learning English at the First United Methodist Church. English classes will be held for Spanish speakers Monday and Tuesday evenings from 6:30 - 8:30pm beginning January 19. English speaking volunteers welcome. Maybe you would prefer to work with younger kids. You can make a difference by creating children's activities to reinforce reading at home. Call Carolyn Bouchard at 481-2818 for more information.
SPEAKING OF SPANISH
Carolyn Bouchard will be teaching Spanish at two different levels this winter. Both levels will begin January 19. The beginner class will start at 12:00pm and the intermediate class will start at 9:00am. The classes will meet MWF in Youth Range. Carolyn uses a fun teaching style of telling stories, reading short novels, and creating humor to help students acquire conversational Spanish. Flee free to laugh with us! The cost is only $40 for 12 weeks. Call Carolyn at 481-2818 to book your spot.
