Computer Evening at Anglia RuskinUniversity

Duration – 2 hours
We are lucky enough to be able to have the use of a Computer Suite at AngliaRuskinUniversity and we intend on using the evening to do a choice of the following TWO activities:
1) Design a poster to promote the advantages of Scouting. You will be able to use Microsoft Word, Publisher, Paint and PowerPoint.
When designing your poster promoting the advantages of scouting, include images/pictures from the internet and ClipArt and also text. Also use images and anything else you think maybe suitable from our website:

Meeting new friends
Learning new, useful skills
Achieving Scout badges
Compass/Map reading skills
Doing outdoor activities
Help in the community
Perform in the Gang Show
The chance to go on at least 3 Camps per year, sometimes held abroad
Keep fit and active... and a few more reasons I am sure you can think of !
2)If you attended the Winter Camp last weekend, produce a newsletter describing the activities that you enjoyed while you were there.
For this activity, you will have access to photographs on a camera from the Winter Camp (please ask Jonathan for these) and also you may want to access various website for additional material. Below is a few hints as to what your newsletter could contain.

When you have finished your poster and/or newsletter save it to disk and print a copy and send your finished poster to using email,

3)If you have time or are working towards stage 4 of the badge try the following
Create a simple website
This could be done in word, FrontPage, or Dreamweaver
Produce a range of information literature on an agreed theme, e.g. 'how to be more environmentally friendly' - leaflets, posters, fliers etc.
Produce a complex database for a specific purpose.

1) Put the data into an excel spreadsheet
2) calculate the total number of people living in Chelmsford, England and East of England
3) calculate the percentage of people living in Chelmsford as a proportion of England and East of England
4) draw a pie chart to show the age data in the following groups

65 and above
5) Comment on how this graph could be used to target recruitment for scouting and what trends can be seen
