PLATO Essential Reading Skills
Skill level 3-5, 21 hours of instruction, 32 discrete learning objectives
Refreshes basic skills and introduces strategies that fluent readers use. Essential Reading Strategies features bright graphics, animations, and audio support to immerse readers as they learn. The lessons help readers learn simple strategies for greater fluency and comprehension, and readers can apply their skills to short articles, stories, and everyday documents.
PLATO Fundamental Reading Strategies
Skill level 5-6, 61 hours of instruction, 27 discrete learning objectives
This curriculum features state-of-the art reading strategies and practice lessons to enhance comprehension and improve student performance. The lessons help growing readers increase vocabulary, distinguish between fact and opinion, and read actively by asking and answering questions. Readers also learn to use prior knowledge, make inferences, and summarize and visualize what they read.
PLATO Intermediate Reading Strategies
Skill level 7-9, 61 hours of instruction, 27 discrete learning objectives
Course features lessons in vocabulary enrichment, prior knowledge, discovering facts and opinions, summarizing, and visualization. Students learn to use new strategies while reading, including using questions and answers, graphics, and inferences to build comprehension.
PLATO Advanced Reading Strategies
Skill level 9-14, 76 hours of instruction, 64 discrete learning objectives
This course is designed to help your students develop the reading comprehension and critical thinking skills necessary to master state-mandated high school graduation tests and college entrance exams. This curriculum also teaches the specific strategies necessary to read college-level material in a variety of disciplines, including social studies, literature, history, and the sciences.
PLATO Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension
Skill level 3-9, 35 hours of instruction, 14 discrete learning objectives
Lessons provide challenging comprehension practice through stories and narrative text. They feature passages in three lengths covering a variety of topics, representing a range of genres. Lessons provide meaningful practice and applications of reading strategies.
PLATO Reading for Information
Skill level 7-12, 74 hours of instruction, 135 discrete learning objectives
As part of the PLATO WorkSkills curricula, this course is designed to teach students the reading comprehension and critical thinking skills needed to understand the use of written resources found in a typical workplace. In this course, students learn to read and use information found in short messages, business letters, reference and technical materials, directions, forms, and reports.
