2015 SURP Frequently Asked Questions

GENERAL INFORMATION

  1. What does it cost?
    There is no cost to the student to attend the program.
  2. Will other costs be incurred?
    Participants will be responsible for bringing bag lunches or purchasing food on campus.
  3. How many students are being accepted?
    12 in each track (24 for the entire program)

CORE CONTENT OF THE PROGRAM

  1. Are there exams or quizzes?
    Participants will be responsible for completing labs and other research exercises. In addition, participants will be completing their own final poster presentation project. There will not be exams or quizzes.
  2. Will students receive a Certificate of Completion?
    Yes.
  3. What faculty are participating in the Summer Undergraduate Research Program?

LIVING ARRANGEMENTS

  1. Are dorm rooms available?
    Yes, students will be staying in the residential hall called High Rise. A virtual tour can be viewed at the following link (upon following that link simply click the “High Rise” tab in the list of residential halls):
  2. What are the dorm rooms like?
    Students will be housed in single rooms. Each apartment includes four single bedrooms, a bathroom, a shower room, a living area, kitchen facilities, and central heat/air condition.
  3. What other services are available?
    The dorm also includes a 25-hour computer lab, internet, meeting rooms, game rooms, laundry facilities and lounges.
  4. What do students do for food?
    Food and drink options include:
  • The Student Center Food Court is open from 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. This includes: grill station; salad station, deli, soup, “Grab & Go” (e.g. fruit cup, veggies, salads), a variety of cold juices and sodas and Starbuck’s. Students using this service can use an Express Cash card for a 5% savings at the Student Center Food Court.
  • There are vending machines in the Science building and around campus that students can use (cash or Express Card, though they do not get the savings at the vending machines)
  • For those staying in dorms, the dorms have kitchens for students to use. Students need to bring their own pans and dishes.

OFF CAMPUS DINING

  1. Jamaican Me Crazy: Authentic Caribbean food with fair portions at right around $10 a plate. They also accept Eastern Express Cash. Located at 776 Main Street.
  2. Thread City Diner: Typical American diner, they serve massive portions and the food tastes great. Easily the best breakfast place right in town. Located at 931 Main Street.
  3. Oriental Café: Best sushi you’ll find close to campus, they also have great Hibachi Specials if raw food isn’t for you. Located at 1257 Main Street.
  4. CafeMantic: Great place for coffee in the morning or a one of a kind dinner you won’t soon forget. Amazing, expertly crafted, Tapas style plates made from 100% locally grown/sourced organic ingredients. Well worth every penny. Located at 948 Main Street.
  5. Tacos La Rosa: Best authentic Mexican food you will ever eat. Affordably priced, with large portions and very fresh ingredients. Located at 255 Main Street.
