Biblical Womanhood
Points
· Biblical womanhood is about a woman exalting God and seeking to honor Jesus by consistently applying Scripture to her daily life.
· Biblical womanhood passages are for ALL women–married or single.
· Biblical womanhood is taught throughout all of Scripture and not only in passages that speak about marriage.
· God is most glorified when we fulfill His design for us
· For most women, God’s design is to be married; loving, helping, and supporting their husbands, and bear and nurture children.
· Serving our husbands, our children, and local church are the highest priority. Some women may choose a career where they can use their unique, God-given gifts, skills and interests to serve even more people. This is a noble desire but a woman must give her first fruits to her husband, children, and church.
· Paul’s admonition about singleness also applies to biblical womanhood. In 1 Corinthians 7:32-35 Paul advocates singleness because it allows that woman the freedom to be wholly, completely focused on the things of the Lord. She is free to make her relationship with God her only concern.
Examples of God-honoring women in the Bible:
Deborah, ruled over Israel as one of the judges (Judges 4-5)
Hannah, the mother of Samuel (1 Samuel 1)
Abigail, a woman of beauty and brains (1 Samuel 25:1-42;2 Samuel 3:3)
Esther
Naomi and Ruth
Widow of Zarapheth (1 Kings 17)
Anna, the devout widow, who spent her time praying at the temple and recognized baby Jesus as the Jews’ prophesied Messiah (Luke 2)
Dorcas, who devoted her talent of sewing to help the poor (Acts 9)
Mary and Martha, sisters of Lazarus and friends of Jesus
Lydia, the wealthy woman who opened her home for the Apostles to hold church (Acts 16)
Priscilla, a woman who helped her husband disciple new believers and opened her home to Paul (Acts 18)
