Students Against Violence Everywhere Sponsors

National Youth Violence Prevention Week March 18-22

Founding Partner Of National Youth Violence Prevention Campaign Aims To Raise Awareness, Take Action On Bullying, Anger Management And Conflict Resolution

RALEIGH, N.C. – Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) (http://www.nationalsave.org), a national nonprofit organization dedicated to ending violence in schools and communities through promoting student involvement, education and service opportunities in efforts to provide safer environments for youth, has kicked off National Youth Violence Prevention Week. Taking place Monday, March 18 through Friday, March 22, National Youth Violence Prevention Week aims to raise awareness, and to educate students, teachers, school personnel, parents and the public on effective ways to prevent or reduce youth violence.

Each day, SAVE, which started National Youth Violence Prevention Week a decade ago, will partner with a different nonprofit organization to promote activities that demonstrate the positive role that young people can have in making their schools and communities safer. SAVE advisors at schools will work with students to equip them with the knowledge to make responsible choices and reach out to peers who may be struggling with violence in their own lives.

Themes for each day are:

- Monday – Promote Respect and Tolerance, sponsored by Teaching Tolerance

- Tuesday – Manage Your Anger, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association

- Wednesday – Resolve Conflicts Peacefully, sponsored by the Association for Conflict Resolution

- Thursday – Support Safety, sponsored by the National Association of Youth Courts

- Friday – Unite In Action, sponsored by Youth Service America

QUOTES:

“Students Against Violence Everywhere started National Youth Violence Prevention Week ten years ago with the goal of reducing violence in our schools and communities,” said Carleen Wray, SAVE executive director. “We have made great strides in connecting with students and equipping them with the knowledge to be advocates for violence prevention among their peers, but we still strive to reach as many people as possible. With the cooperation of our generous sponsors and other nonprofits, we seek to use this week as a starting point for students who want to see their communities grow and prosper through addressing issues such as bullying, anger management and conflict resolution.”
