Continence Resource Centre

The Continence Resource Centre is a state-wide continence information and advisory servicelocated at the Independent Living Centre.

The Continence Resource Centre is affiliated with the Continence Foundation of Australia,and funded by the Department for Communities and Social Inclusion.

About incontinence

Incontinence refers to the involuntarypassing of urine or faeces, and may affectpeople of all ages.Incontinence has many different causes,but much can be done to improve and/orcure incontinence problems.

The Continence Resource Centreprovides members of the public—includingpeople with incontinence, their families,carers and health professionals—withinformation and advice on incontinence.

The Centre improves awareness of themany strategies available to manageincontinence.

Continence Resource Centre services

The Centre is staffed by a Registered Nurse/Continence Nurse Advisor, and provides information and advice on bladder and bowel problems. Information is available to everyone, including people with incontinence, their families, carers and health professionals.

The services provided include:

  • continence management information and advice
  • continence services information
  • continence funding schemes information
  • continence product information (including an extensive product display)
  • health promotion activities at the Centre, and in metropolitan and rural areas of South Australia
  • education sessions and seminars at the Centre, and in metropolitan and rural areas of South Australia.

The continence information display

The continence information display includes fact sheets, booklets andbrochures.

Our extensive continence product displayincludes:

  • disposable pads and pants
  • reusable pads and pants

  • disposable absorbent sheets and chair pads
  • reusable absorbent sheets and chair pads
  • uridomes (sheaths)
  • urinary drainage bags (leg bags and overnight bags)
  • waterproof mattress protection
  • toileting equipment (for example, male and female urinals, bed pans, commodes, toilet seat raisers)
  • adapted clothing (for easier dressing)
  • odour control products.

Eligibility and access to our services

The Continence Resource Centre information and advisory service is open from 9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.

Everyone is welcome to visit the Centre, to phone, fax or email their inquiries.

Please make an appointment by phone or email for detailed advice.

An interpreter is available by prior arrangement.

All our services are free of charge.

About the Continence Foundation of Australia

The Continence Foundation of Australia (CFA) is a not-for-profit organisation and the national peak body promoting bladder and bowel health. The CFA provides continence management information and research information for distribution in the community.

The Continence Resource Centre promotes CFA activities, such as World Continence Week.

A CFA-funded health promotion officer is employed at the Continence Resource Centre to facilitate CFA work in South Australia and to promote community awareness about healthy bladder and bowel habits.
