Sacred Heart Catholic School Council Meeting Minutes
February 6, 2018
Attendance: Alix Carr-Harris, Susie Hulton, Kelly Maracle, Robin Hulton, Laura Mullin, Nicole LePage, Louise Trudeau, Nienke Hoedeman, Danielle Hogan
Principals report:
- Our new Custodian is Sherry Payne
- Report cards Feb 20th
- Scholastic book fair: week April 9th- 12th. This is organized by Ms Wimmer. Communication needs to go out to the community. Tuesday preview and Wed is the sale. Volunteers needed for Wednesday. Alix, Nicole and Robin volunteer
- JR coed basketball tournament is on Feb 21st, coach Amanda Kyle
- No Senior basketball team as there was no coach. Hoping to get more parents to volunteer to be coaches next year.
- Mini-track and field meet with EcoleCathedrial, May 30th at the Invista Centre – Grades 3 and up
- Gr 8 parent info night Feb 22 @ 6:30 at Regi
- Clinical psych from Maple FHT Feb 8th
- Social media- School would like to acknowledge that there is a Facebook page, reiterate that it is not a school sanctioned site, therefore the school cannot guarantee the accuracy of the info
- Online payments are coming: milk payments first and then hot lunch- check online for payment process. Fundraisers could also be run through online pay system
- Feb 14th is same day of lent = school valentine celebrations with happen Feb 13th
Guest speaker, Janette Haas, well respected author Seed to Table, WI Community Garden Group
Working with various communities to develop public gardens and lesson modules for working with kids. School to Garden program at public school. Will be working with Ms Sherriff’s class to grow the garden and understand environmental impact as well. Need parent help and perhaps funding. WI Community Garden does their own fundraising. Budget is just over $4000. Seeds can be sourced on the Island.
Teacher Report:
- Cross –Grade Olympics – Teams, Flags and Logo design, Opening ceremonies on Friday Feb 9th. Meet every 2 days where kids are run through events they have adapted.Closing ceremony on Feb 23rd with medal ceremony
- Leanne passes on gratitude for donations for Merrithew family
- Public speaking on Monday Feb 12th for practice, Thursday Feb 15th for stage speaking presentations
- No first communion or confirmation this year

Fundraising–need to look at what our expected expenses will be and how much more we should fundraise for. Ideas are: spring fling, Little Caesar’s, Paint Nite. Continue to next meeting
Graduation: Monday June 25th

Council has approved budget $1100 (graduates & 2 guests), Father D and Katherine, $250 Student gifts, $50 decorations,
staff will pay for their meals
Movie night - $250? Susie to f/up school policy
Kitchen tap- Louise will order and the board will install
Fridge is working on and off, Matt Orr will come and look at it

Microwave – can kids use it to warm lunch? NO-takes too much time, there is only 20 minutes to eat
